The Ballad of Billy Badass is the first feature film from writer/director/actor Elijah Winfrey. Filmed at
various locations in the North Country and set in a dystopian future 2025 is the year. The people have
overthrown the U.S. government and won. They have fallen back to a time akin to the great depression.
Food is scarce, people living in ruins and they rely on an organized crime syndicate that has risen to a
governing body of the 4 districts of Quad City. Patrick Burnett, co-writer of the film, plays the leather
clad, shalalie wielding title character Billy Badass. The rest of the cast is filled out with local talent
(including writer/director Elijah Winfrey) who we are introduced to along Billy's quest to improve his
living condition and that of the district he rules.
Burnett plays Billy as his name implies, a badass, but as his journey progresses we learn quite a bit about
Billy and what drives him to the hope of a better existence. Winfrey puts Billy through a series of ups,
downs, twists and turns along the way with the biggest twist coming at the end.
Hats off to Elijah, his cast & crew for a very successful inaugural film outing. I recommend supporting
this film by purchasing the digital copy. As a film buff, and student of film & theatre myself, I love to see
grassroots productions using talented local people & locations we can all recognize on the silver screen.
I give this film an enthusiastic 2 thumbs up and I am very much looking forward to the next outing of this
troupe.
