Sam Harvey, having been talked out of retirement, heads to Market Cross, where he's placed in charge of the murder of Rita Black, following the incapacitation of the SIO.
As always with Durbridge, you know you're going to be driven down multiple blind alleyways, The Local Affair has the makings of being tantalisingly intriguing.
Martin Jarvis is always great value, there are some big characters here, including Rita's irascible sister Isobel.
The filming is of course slow by today's standards, what is long scenes allow for great dialogue.
A fine start, 8/10
