"She may be little, but she's strong"

Based on the Hans Christian Andersen story the narrative is simple enough. The Snow Queen kidnaps Kai from his adopted grandmother and Gerda, another grand child goes in search of him aided by a storyteller, a prince and princess, the daughter of a bandit and a reindeer. Kai has had his heart frozen. Will Gerda be able to bring warmth back to his heart?

For children of all ages this is a splendid adaptation of the original story with lots of charm and humour with some animation and and even a couple of songs. The production design is excellent such as the throne room divided in half and the trees with doors. The Snow Queen's palace is appropriately bleak, empty and sterile. The music score adds greatly to the atmosphere.

It is well cast with Elena Proklova perfect as Gerda, starting sweet but getting more resolute as her quest continues. The rest of the actors are fine as well. I particularly liked Era Ziganshina as the bandit's daughter and Evgeniy Leonov as the King. The none speaking cast are also excellent.

It's entertainment all the way.
