Review of Laddie

Laddie (1940)
7/10
So, a snooty Brit moves to farm country and then announces that farmers are beneath him and his family?! Huh?!

Laddie Stanton (Tim Holt) is the son of a nice farmer and his nice family. Unfortunately, Laddie has fallen in love with Pamela Pryor (Virginia Gilmore). Why do I say unfortunately? Because her father is a nasty, snobby guy who is about as friendly as a rattlesnake. The father also is incredibly illogical, as he feels his daughter is too good for 'just a farmer'....but the Pryors moved from Britain to farm country in America! How does all this get worked out and how can Laddie and Pamela have a happy ending? Just ask Little Sister (Joan Carroll).

Although Holt and Gilmore received top billing, young Joan Carroll seemed to be the star of this family film. She is darling and a very effective young actress....and overall she was the best thing about this picture. Clever and worth seeing.
