A lot of people complained that Jomonte Suvisheshangal was a copy of Jacobinte Swargarajyam, which released last year. Sure, there are similarities. Both films have young Christian males from rich Malayali families trying to revive the glory of their family when faced with tough times as protagonists.
But the similarities end there. While Jaconbinte Swargarajaym was an uninhibited celebration of Malayali Christian industriousness, Jomonte Suvisheshangal is a warning against the ills of materialism and longing for wealth.
Like in Sathyan Anthikad's TP Balagopalan MA (1986), Jomon's ending has the family giving up on its pursuit of wealth and entering the agricultural sector.
Dulqer is charming as Jomon. But this could be a breakthrough role for Mukesh. I expect him to be cast in more elderly roles like the patriarch in this film. The heroines were unremarkable at best.
It was not a bad film. But there were more unremarkable bits than instances of great narrative punctuation. The background score was used to great effect in some of the scenes.
