Goes back and forth from being decent to tedious
28 September 2015
This is a pretty poor example of movie-making which is supposed to be a comedy/drama I suppose but lacks pure emotion, laughters, characters that go beyond caricatures and pretty much everything else.

Labeled as a 2002 movie but I have a hard time believing it's that "new" it just screams 90's when seeing the outfits and the actors who I'm familiar with before; Mekhi Phifer, Tangi Miller and Regina Hall (in a one scene role) simply look a lot younger than they did in the 00's and they all acting wise appear very rookie-like.

So I would guess it's one of those independent movies where they couldn't get a company to release their movie but once the cast got a little fame they got a couple offers still to do so.

Anyway watching this movie I occasionally felt entertained but occasionally really struggled not to hit the fast-forward button because it was so slow and uninteresting but then it got slightly entertaining again and it goes back and forth like that for the duration of the movie.

Everything feels just feels half-assed from the way the characters are written and played to the editing down to the wardrobe and even design of Mekhi's home, he plays a guy who only listens to jazz music and seemingle dislikes rap music but he's dressed in typical hiphop gear; baggy jeans etc half the time and has a subscribtion to Vibe magazine and a poster of THE FUGEES on his wall, something that doesn't match his character.

The filmmakers inexperience in movie-making is apparent in almost every scene, go watch HITCH (2005) again, you won't regret it.
