An a non-Lebanese and one that knows little about the civil war I would think my view is more objective. I look at the war as a backdrop to a story, one in which a son tries to reconcile his relationship with a father whom he hardly knows. So in a sense it is a story of love, love between a husband and a wife, and between a father and his son.
As a film 'Littoral' is well acted, although there are definitely ways to make the story tighter and more coherent. At times it appears abstract, and the direction avant-garde. Visually it is a good-looking film. The fact it was not shot in Lebanon is not, in my opinion, a negative as I do not think that was important.
In a nutshell, I watched the film and, as a supporter of Quebec cinema, did not find it a waste of time.
