A dated movie of Mika Waltari's play
15 March 2012
This is a movie about professor Varavaara and his family that ridicules him. Some joy to his life brings a young woman named Marja.Kuriton Sukupolvi (1937) is directed by Wilho Ilmari. It's based on a play by Mika Waltari from previous year.I'm just reading a book full of Waltari's plays, and this is one of them. This is the first movie version of the play, the second and the last happened 20 years later. There are some of the most known actors of the era in this movie.Uuno Laakso plays Reinhold Varavaara.Tyyne Haarla is his wife Elli.Ansa Ikonen plays Marja.Oke Tuuri is Galilo.Laila Rihte plays Jaana.Unto Salminen is Pentti.Siiri Angerkoski plays the part of Liina while Aku Korhonen is Manager Huitu. Also Kaarlo Angerkoski, Jalmari Rinne and Kyllikki Väre are seen in the movie. The movie seems pretty dated. It, being about youth and young people, suffers from certain stiffness. Also, 20 minutes of the length wouldn't have killed.
