How Mother Bear Taught The Children About Lead (Pb)
The ability to follow along with the booklet & teacher manual that is provided as a PDF -- is great. I separated the course to parallel the seasons we were in and taught it other seasonal sessions. The Teacher's Manual and Booklet can be found at: (http://www.tbep.net/MotherBear/index.htm) and can be downloaded at: (http://kids.niehs.nih.gov/bear/guide12-19-03.pdf) The DVD can be ordered via (http://www.tbep.net/feedback.htm)
The animation dove tails with the book and brings these characters to life. It is very ingenious in brining these children back to their Native American roots and tying in the past lead (Pb) exposures to the present day exposures. The use of a bear (Mother Bear) is perfect, a large and protective creature watching over her cubs(children,Children will remember her words of wisdom!
The music is original Tribal Music "Keepers of the Penobscot Drum" and is very calming for the children. In addition a Free animated Lead Game called Lead Tracker helps you further educate the children on lead hazards in an animated game board environment - it was quite delightful.
If you can print out the booklet in color, it is quite fascinating with it's earthy colors and tones and very imaginative games which reemphasizes lead (Pb) lessons taught in the DVD. There are Word Search, Game Board, Match Game, and hide and seek. What a Wonderful Product.
I recently found it on Utube: How Mother Bear Taught the Children about Lead, part 1 of 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOj9XYsjbS4 How Mother Bear Taught the Children about Lead, part 2 of 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QIWZpg50h0
