Arash Moirian's 'Coma' had potential. It attempts to tackle too many themes but never fully explores any of them. The result is halfbaked. Aamir represents the modern young man who wants to see development in his country which he sees as oppressed. while themes of corruption and oppression are introduced, they are never developed. Plot holes are prominent. Coma looks rushed. Even the friendship between Aamir and Hassan left a lot to be desired and Hassan's love story is probably the bleakest. The cinematography, sound, score, editing and lighting are quite poor. The performances manage to salvage some of the film. Amin Hayayee steals the show as Hasan. I liked that even though the character goes through a sudden makeover, his traits stay consistent rather than drastically changing 180 degrees. Mohammad Reza Golzar is competent and Hadis Fouladvand delivers a sincere performance while Mahnaz Afshar makes the best of her ill-written role.
