Hot Cookies (1977)

Superior Sex Hiding Behind Silly Title
2 June 2007
Howard Ziehm, who brought hardcore pornography its first tinge of respectability with 1970's seminal MONA THE VIRGIN NYMPH (which he photographed and co-directed with Bill Osco), made a name for himself as the King of the so-called "loop-carrier", a term you'll find exhaustively explained in my comment for his excellent HONEYPIE. In addition to that masterpiece and its carnal companion SWEET CAKES, he helmed a number of more frugal variations on the form like SEXTEEN and this one, proving that a big budget was not required to make exquisite erotica. Boasting the presence of 5 Penthouse Pets, whose already impressive natural beauty is further enhanced by Ziehm's gorgeous camera work, HOT COOKIES provides eye candy of the highest order.

Ken Scudder (the blind piano tuner from Sam Weston's EASY), as an amateur collector of erotica, wanders into an odd bookstore where the portly owner quickly ushers him into the back-room where his "daughter" Serena exposes her sexually explicit paintings along with every conceivable aspect of her anatomy. As in the classic TV horror show NIGHT GALLERY, each painting introduces a separate mini-story. Society siren Gail Lawrence (a/k/a "Abigail Clayton") is sick and tired of upholding her prim and proper image and goes out slumming, picking up various partners for sex in her chauffeur-driven Limo. In rapid succession she works her way through four of them, three guys and a gal, none of which are identified either in the credits or in any of the sources I've come across. Number 3 is a blonde surfer type with a floppy fringe who somewhat resembles Jesse Adams, while the last is a muscular black stud who just might be Johnnie Keyes. I haven't got a clue as to the dark-haired, mocha-skinned lady or the first guy though, the latter being the only one given a character name (Anthony) as well as any dialog by the way.

Painter Joey Silvera charms Nordic blonde Anna Magle (a German sex comedy mainstay, billed here as "Anna Karenya") into creating a "love painting" with him. Sounds like a con job to me as it amounts to little more than some good old-fashioned in 'n' out ! A seriously steamy Civil War era Sapphic scene is up next with fair-haired Lenore Grant – who never exposes her breasts (on the upside, she married the director and my virtual blood brother Casey Scott has informed me that they're still together) – and Isolde Jensen making inspired use of a half-filled wine bottle. Now there seems to be some confusion over the latter's identity, several sources claiming this is underrated Fay Burd, the hooker catalyst from Joanna Williams' unsettling EXPENSIVE TASTES. While there is a slight resemblance and Burd has occasionally been credited as "Isolde" (on Fred Lincoln's SAME TIME EVERY YEAR amongst others), I'm pretty sure this isn't her. Don't let that bother your enjoyment of this scorcher of a slurp-off though ! A then-timely ROCKY send-up finds lovely redhead (something for everyone here) Moira Donovan as a fledgling reporter attempting to do a piece on up 'n' coming boxer Rocky Johnson, also in Ziehm's glossy STAR VIRGIN, winding up as his coach instead, providing a type of massage that can't be beat. Back at the bookstore, Scudder has gotten all hot 'n' bothered as well as decked out in ladies' lingerie (don't ask !) for a most bizarre sexual number involving various disembodied female parts with a sci-fi twist proving the wrap-up. Also note that, unless one of the faceless orifices belongs to her, superstar Serena only flies solo in this outing.
