Chris Barrie, Craig Charles, Ray Fearon, Danny John-Jules, Robert Llewellyn, and Norman Lovett in Red Dwarf (1988)

Review by dave437356x

Red Dwarf

5/10

The USA pilots (there are 2)

It always bemuses me when a remake is made of a successful show. I can understand that someone wants to amend it for their own market and wants to make money from it, but what I don't understand is why so many changes are made. If the series is so good in the first place why change it beyond recognition? This is what I feel was done for a quick buck with the American versions.

Apart from only including one of the original British actors (Robert Llewellyn as Kryten) an extra characters is added and the Cat changes sex! It just isn't Red Dwarf any more - unless this is one of the parallel universes - an opportunity missed by the producers of these remakes.

For anyone who wants to see the USA pilots so they can make their own mind up take a look at this trading page - http://dvd247.tripod.com which includes rare Red Dwarf and lots of other British comedy.

Enjoy you popcorn.
