Dear God, hit me with cliches and prayer
9 December 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Ok. It's the most in your face Christian show I've ever seen. In my youth I watched Touched by an angel and 7th Heaven and loved both, I can get over some of it but this was just too much.

It's soapy, the acting isn't the best but some was good (I like Ashley and Luke a lot).

But I mean people so always ask how can you believe in his with all the bad in the world and man does this family pray more than most (I was surprised they didn't host more bible study and go to more than one service a week etc) and yet everything bad happens to them.

Like I said it's a soap. Over the course of 2 years (there was a big time skip near the beginning and a few smaller ones) they get hit by everything. With past stuff too. Also the 2 family members we know of who have sex before marriage both result in pregnancy? Really? The one abortion ends in infection (but honestly they handled that better than I anticipated by just saying I don't agree with the decision made but she shouldn't be alone). There are 2 affairs, 1 ends up shot dead because of it the other ends up HIV+ because of it. But the girl who stood by her man after his affair when he asked for a divorce loses him but gets her even happier ever after (also really she gets remarried like 13 months after her husband is shot dead. A bit fast huh?). And we just all talk nice about Tim after his death like he wasn't scum sleeping with a STUDENT. His student. Atleast when it was Karli that was a student she wasn't in his classes. But come on. He drinks for a week or two and we all celebrate his sobriety journey.

There is a lot in here I don't like. Women are supposed to have kids that's what they are there for but by all means give your husband time to come to that choice. He's got a big fancy career (we never learn what it is) and she's just a teacher. No matter your struggle you just need prayer. Ashley is obviously depressed but ya know she wouldn't be if she came back to the church (and stopped exhibiting outward signs when she did). She also shows symptoms of adhd (lack of impulse control, always late, struggles with daily tasks, hard time holding down a job - not really during but they allude to it, creativity, etc) but yes let prayer heal.

I liked Luke's project. The moms why wouldn't your teacher want you to not believe in GOD? Because it's philosophy. Also what law student takes philosophy? They showed him in zero law classes.

I grew up Catholic but do not practice. So I see why other devout Christians would like this show more. I do like some of the lessons and I like how they had a bible verse guiding each episode.

I watched all of them (first 3 seasons) in like 26 hours (I was sick in bed) and almost gave up after 2 but kept going and I'm not mad I did but could have watched much better things. Also, the episodes are so short the scenes from next episode and recaps tell you pretty much all you need to know.

I could say a lot more but I'll leave it there. Kept me entertained sick in bed but if you aren't devout Christian this is probably far too much.
