A Mediocre Film Which Misses The Essence Of Small Communities In WV
2 December 2024
In an era of high budget films and technicolor, Hank's Christmas Wish does an abysmal job of creating the essence of what a small community in WV is actually like. Hank and his entire INPTC (Independent North Pole Toy Contractor) workshop should have been digitally enhanced for better quality. In the age of AI that would not have been over budget or over the top. Rather than creating a backstory to help pull the plot line along, the viewer is thrown into a scenario where.a large group of people are residing in a retirement community. This might be a reality for many people, but for many viewers it will be terrifying and confusing. Perhaps the only character profile that is intended to draw in viewers is the story of the.realtionship and plight of Brenda and Liam, a young teenager (adult) and her brother who find themselves living in a van before being rescued by Hank. Brenda and Liam have no one in the world to turn to except one another and a grandmother who is living in a retirement community. The mayor, played by Dean Cain, seems more invested in planning the town's Christmas festivities than actually determining what has driven the town into an obvious decline. As for Dean Cain, himself, he could have benefitted from a few sessions with a personal trainer and a nutrition expert. Perhaps the same could be said of the teacher and several other characters.
