Unexpected turn
13 October 2024
It starts with potential, offering a glimpse of an intriguing escape story led by two young protagonists, Tereza (12) and Marek (13). However, as the film progresses, it becomes clear that the initial promise is never fully realized. While the actors deliver commendable performances and the camera work is competent, the film ultimately falls flat. The story feels dull and empty, lacking the emotional depth needed to connect with the audience. There's a distinct absence of emotion throughout, which makes it difficult to engage with the characters or care about their journey. Visually, film is underwhelming, with no experimental flair or striking cinematography to elevate the narrative. The film plays it safe, staying within the confines of a solid but unremarkable format. It feels more like a decent student project than a fully developed feature, delivering on form but missing the heart and soul needed to make it memorable. Though the film starts off strong, hinting at a more engaging and promising narrative, it quickly loses momentum and leaves the viewer disengaged.
