Dead Girls is an ambitious microbudget horror anthology. You can already tell what the main problem is going to be--being ambitious and and having almost no budget don't go well together. At least Dead Girls looks good--for the most part. And these days there's no excuse anymore for a movie to look like heck. Unless you insist on doing what the Dead Girls crew did and that is feel obliged to follow the lame old horror formula that all horror has to take place at night. That's when things get problematic. You need a budget to make a movie filmed at night look good. There are some audio problems as well, often the music is louder than the dialogue. Aside from that technically, Dead Girls is alright.
Acting is good all around, the cast does a great job. For what it is, the writing isn't bad either. There are four stories here about abused girls taking vengeance. There isn't really a whole lot of horror, let alone gore. Despite the themes of some of the stories: sorority girls, nuns, there is no nudity.
In the behind-the-scenes feature we meet the young cast and crew. They all look straight out of film school. And in a way this movie comes across like a school project or in this case, a post-school project, something to get out there with your name on it. Missing is some type of pay-off for the audience. There's really not much here. The ending was neat. But in cases like these where there's not much you can show, the script should have made up for budget deficiencies with ideas.
