After being fired from her job, a former nurse is tasked with looking after a seemingly disabled woman in a man's remote house while he's away on business, but the more they spend together the more they set into motion a plan to kill her and take a large inheritance which is complicated by several factors.
This was a pretty decent and enjoyable effort. One of the nicer features here is the rather enjoyable atmosphere conjured up here that effectively gives the house a rather eerie quality. Located out in the wilderness away from civilization, the isolation alone is enough to be quite unnerving before getting to all the various floors, staircases, and general layout of the location which is quite creepy and adds a rather fun bonus on top of the other antics on display here. From the initial distrust and reservations they have towards each other based on the unwarranted hiring and being placed in that position as well as the setup involving their family history and all the fun contradictions that brings up when they're fully revealed, there's a lot to like here. The other really enjoyable factor here is the film's second half, where it manages to really let loose with its premise and have some genuinely eerie elements present. With the plan to kill her in place and all the early setup featured here, this becomes quite fun as the eeriness is allowed time to shine here as the plan involves retrieving a severed hand from a graveyard in the dead of night, misplaced limbs, and other objects strewn around the house that mysteriously disappear, and disembodied voices heard in the dolls that coincide with odd doll movement around the house. Given the double-crosses at play here are taken up by unforeseen revelations that emerge from all sorts of buried secrets coming to pass, this is all quite fun and works to build a fun finale which is enough to hold this up quite a bit. There isn't much to dislike here but it does have a few minor factors going against it. One of the biggest drawbacks is the rather obvious padding done to the running time through several short storylines that don't need to be there. The early scenes of her struggles to cope after losing her job, the detour to the grocery store that results in them conspiring their plans, or mysterious dolls in the house just feels like needless additions that end up holding back the real revelations to be had here since those don't come until well into the second half of the film. This can make the film feel somewhat sluggish at times waiting around for the good parts to come about despite everything else being quite fun and enjoyable. As well as some obvious instances of low-budget limitations, there's not much to dislike here.
