The 2023 thriller "Home Wrecker" from writer and director Stephina Zwane was one that I had never even heard about prior to sitting down and watching it.
And I have to admit that I wasn't exactly harboring a whole lot of expectations to the movie, as the synopsis and the movie's poster seemed like pretty generic stuff. Yet, I still opted to give "Home Wrecker" the benefit of the doubt, and thus sat down to watch it.
Well, the good news is, if you enjoy these generic and predictable thrillers about infidelity, then you're in for a treat here. Because Stephina Zwane delivers something that follows the how-to-make-a-romantic-thriller blueprint by the letter, for better or worse.
Needless to say, that with "Home Wrecker" being a South African movie, then I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble, given my very limited exposure to the South African cinema. The acting performances in the movie, however, were actually fair and adequate, especially when taking into consideration the restrictions of the generic script.
Sure, I sat through the movie, but was only mildly entertained. But then again, this particular subgenre of thrillers is not something I delve into very often. But I am sure that there is an audience out there that will take a liking to the movie, because it wasn't a bad movie.
My rating of "Home Wrecker" lands on a five out of ten stars.
