I like an interesting horror film and find analog horror films usually very interesting; granted, I have to watch a recap station because I just do not feel like trying to find all the hidden stuff within. This one was very reminiscent of Gemini video as it tells about this strange new species on earth; however, that being said, it is also a bit like the Mandela analog horror too as there are a couple of scenes that play out using video cameras. Was not as good as my favorite one Gemini mainly due to it being a bit too cryptic at times. Once again, a lot of stuff must be deciphered in this thing. Heck, I did not even notice most of the stuff and what I did see, I could not read it. Still, I enjoyed the concept and perhaps there will be more made later on.
The story, first you go through these documentary style videos documenting these new life forms on earth basically described as living meat. They start off with the Crawl, which is basically a vine, then a little creature and a meat snake. All of these seem pretty harmless, with the meat snake even having uses. The it gets to the mimic which subsists mainly on human flesh...yeah, this part made things get serious all of a sudden. After that some dangerous creature that can get you like a bear trap and inject you with poison, one that can use spores to make you come to it so it can rip you open and finally one that is Godzilla like in size, the Monolith! There is one more, and it looks like it is circular, but nothing is said on it as there seems to be a coverup going on! Then we get flavor commercials, how one of these things can make a good pet and how to survive an attack. Something is not right within the world these things inhabit...
For the most part there are no people on screen and you mainly get the documentaries then commercials during the latter stage. You do get to see a mimic attack which looked pretty good. The weakest one though is the Mimic defense one as it starts out okay and ends alright, but in the middle you are watching two people just walking for what seems an eternity! It is also the longest one and not sure why they felt the need to pad this one so much.
So, a good and very interesting series. Shorten that Mimic defense one and it would have been better. The series even manages to be humorous as it shows you how to care for your weird pet that looks like a few wads of meat (I do believe I will keep my cats, thanks anyway). I would have liked to see more on the Monolith as there are a couple of shots of them that look super cool! I would like to see where the mystery leads, but seriously, the main thing most analog horrors have in common is that nothing is ever truly resolved.
