Producer and director Martin Brest has disowned this edit, so the director's credit is for "Alan Smithee" (the usual nickname used for directors when they disregard from a work).

Hopkins steals the show, again!

Rendezvous with Joe Black would have been a solid movie. But Anthony Hopkins came into it and turned it into a great movie, because he is Anthony Hopkins and he does Anthony Hopkins things!!

Death makes a deal with Hopkins: He accompanies him with the intention of learning something from this great man. In exchange Hopkins' character lives a bit longer and has the chance ro properly say farewell to his family and save his company.

Then Death falls in love with Hopkin's daughter and it gets interesting. At this point I was so invested into Hopkin's character that I hoped Death will stay with her, so Hopkins' character will live on, but unfortunately Death knows he can't do that and it comes to an emotional farewell.

I think this movie would have been only mediocre without the masterclass performance of Anthony Hopkins, who carries this 3 hours long picture with his bare hands. This man is a legend and I love him always when I am seeing him on the screen.

Rendezvous with Joe Black is worth watching because of him alone!
