Baobhan Sith (pronounced "Babvanshee" is an off-the-wall comedy horror film with a home-made feel or a student project that cost perhaps £50 to make - not unlike Monty Python and the Holy Grail perhaps, or Father Ted, or Carry on Screaming, or even Dark Star, where it is the very amateurishness of the production that makes it work.
Initially this creates an amateur-Panto feel, which I assume is deliberate, but the film has a quietly understated humour that steadily grows on you. I should add that the second half is better than the first, so stick with it.
In summary, Baobhan Sith is a real hoot and has the makings of a cult movie. A real winner, but possibly not to everyone's taste.
I'm not 100% sure where it was filmed, but I recognised the (now demolished) chimneys of the old Longniddry power station just outside Edinburgh and Bass Rock just off the coast, but I'm curious where the house itself is.
