Hello, my name is Jonathan Vargas. I am a filmmaker. I was born on June 11th 1990 in New York, NY. I moved to Florida at a young age with my parents, and have been living in south Florida ever since.
My love for Cinema started around the age of six. It started from watching Godzilla films on VHS; they indulged a constant curiosity that I couldn't get enough of. Eventually I started exploring other genres of cinema from the likes of Martin Scorsese, Alfred Hitchcock, Akira Kurosawa, etc. Their works of arts inspired me to begin creating stories of my own with the use of action figures. I began telling and showing his stories to his family.
Through my formative years upon graduating from high school, I decided to pursue my chosen path and went to The Art Institute of Ft Lauderdale where I graduated with honors.
After college, I decided to make my own films. It started off as short films. My first few films had themes of gangsters and violence like "Back for Vengeance'' and "Nothing to Lose". After writing and directing several violent type themes, I branched out and created a romantic comedy, entitled "George & Angie". However, I continued with the horror and drama genre, always constantly striving to improve in my craft as a filmmaker.
Besides making short films on the side, I also work in television by working with and for CBS specifically on the news segments. Prior to CBS I also have experience working at Telemundo. As of now, I have six years of experience working in Television and seven years as a filmmaker/Videographer.
In the years that have followed, I have also won awards in both television and film. One of my short films called "Side Effects" has won a total of 14 awards at several festivals. As of now, I have finally worked on my first feature film called "Negativity."
