There was a lunar eclipse one night during the filming of The Fisherman in Hong Kong, causing a shift in the tides. The crew was so engaged in the filming that they did not realize the boat drifted into a sandbank and became marooned. After fruitless efforts to free the boat, the local fire and water department was called. Because the boat was over-capacity, two of the crewman jumped into the water and waded back to shore before the authorities arrived. Two frigates arrived to set the boat free, which was later impounded, halting the production. Short on filming time, the crew went to a Buddhist temple to pray for a miracle - and it came - the boat was released after fines were paid, and the filming can finally continue.
