James Leon is a multidimensional producer and writer who founded and runs Miami-based production company 8th Gear Entertainment - an emerging media company dedicated to delivering cutting edge mainstream content to a global audience.
Through movies, music and television, James has established himself as a leading producer whose creative vision and drive has contributed to a diverse slate of elevated and sophisticated projects told with a distinctive voice.
James's Ecuadorian roots provide him with unique perspectives at a time when fresh concepts and originality are paramount to transcendent success. As the grandson of former President León Febres-Codero of Ecuador, he was taught at an early age to pursue excellence and embrace his love of storytelling.
Through 8th Gear, James remains dedicated to making and delivering high-end, commercial movies for global audiences. In this capacity, he serves as a top-tier supplier of mainstream projects for studios, streamers and major independent distributors worldwide.
Under the direction of James, 8th Gear has quickly emerged as one of the industry's most prolific production companies with the capacity to develop, package and produce a broad array of films for worldwide distribution.
The surging popularity of one of the world's fastest growing sports circuits led James to creating a first-of-its-kind partnership between FIA ABB Formula E (electric racing's official championship circuit) to bring the fast paced sport to the big screen via a female-centered racing / action / thriller "Breakneck" - a franchise starter in the vein of "Fast & Furious." James is producing the film alongside Ted Field ("Jumanji" and "Chronicles of Riddick" franchises, "The Last Samurai") and Justin Smith for Radar Pictures.
James is also bringing famed giant tortoise Lonesome George and his remarkable true story to life in a new 3D CGI animated adventure movie. The real Lonesome George was known as the rarest creature on Earth. His life and story continue to inspire and serve as an international symbol for conservation efforts in the Galápagos Islands and throughout the world.
From a story by James in collaboration with James Byrkit, the movie follows Lonesome George, the giant tortoise of the Galápagos, and the last of his kind, as he sets out on an epic adventure to find others like him and discovers the true meaning of family. The movie aims to bring environmental issues to light that affect our planet, conservation and the ongoing evolution of ecosystems and its impact on the future of the environment and the world.
In 2022, James started and hosted the inaugural Leaders for Change Summit in partnership with the Charles Darwin Foundation to raise awareness about the ongoing evolution of the pristine ecosystem and its impact on the future of the environment of the world.
In addition to making films, James has a successful music background. In 2017, he ventured into the world of music, debuting on Billboard's top 40 in the Latin music chart with his hit single "Disparame" under his own record label.
