Gene Barretta is an award-winning author and illustrator of critically acclaimed books, such as Starring Steven Spielberg, Dear Deer, Lincoln and Kennedy, Now & Ben, and Neo Leo. In 2021, he received an NAACP Image Award nomination for writing The Secret Garden of George Washington Carver. He has animated several films for Sesame Street (1969); created storyboards and character designs for the Jim Henson Company; and developed illustrated style guides for Between the Lions (1999). He lives outside of Philadelphia with his son. Gene is the older brother of Bill Barretta
