Manila, Aug 29 (Ians) The US secured a spot in the round of 16 at the Fiba World Cup with a dominant 109-81 victory over Greece in a Group C clash, while China suffered another setback, facing an 89-69 defeat against South Sudan.

In its first game last Saturday, the US overcame a 10-point deficit to claim a comfortable 99-72 win against New Zealand. Greece also had a smooth victory, defeating Jordan 92-71, reports Xinhua.

The US has won four of its last five encounters with Greece in the World Cup, with Greece’s only victory occurring in the 2006 semifinals. These teams also met in the most recent tournament, where the US won by a 16-point margin.

Update: Austin Reaves is returning to the Los Angeles Lakers. Reaves, a restricted free agent, agreed to a four-year, $56 million Early Bird maximum contract. He proved himself this season, averaging 16.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists for the Lakers in 16 playoff games.

The Lakers also reached a deal for guard D’Angelo Russell to return on a two-year, $37 million deal, ESPN reported. The Lakers also signed free agent cente Jaxson Hayes.

WME has acquired full ownership of BDA Sports Management, which has built up a formidable client list of NBA players during its 25 years in business.

BDA founder Bill Duffy will join WME Sports as head of its basketball division and BDA agents, staff and clients will be under the WME umbrella after the official close of the deal.

In 2020, WME had taken a minority position in BDA, which was founded in 1998 and has repped many top-tier players, among them 30 NBA Draft lottery picks, 44 All-Stars and 15 winners of an NBA title. BDA’s current roster includes more than 40 NBA players, among them Luka Dončić, Scottie Barnes, Rj Barrett and Deandre Ayton.

WME has unveiled a deal to acquire the remaining stake in BDA Sports Management that it does not already own in the sports representation firm, and plans to make agent Bill Duffy head of the basketball division at WME Sports.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the Beverly Hills-based agency earlier bought a minority stake in the Black-owned sports agency that Duffy founded more than 30 years ago, and as chairman and CEO advised WME Sports’ basketball representation practice before cementing ties.

BDA agents, staff and clients will operate under WME Sports once the deal closes as scheduled on April 1.

Pascal Siakam is going to the 2023 NBA All-Star game.

After the Toronto Raptors forward was initially snubbed of All-Star status earlier this month — to the chagrin of many in the 6ix — a spot was freed up for Siakam as an All-Star replacement due to Kevin Durant’s injury.

Siakam was named Friday as one of three reserve replacements by NBA commissioner Adam Silver for the Feb. 19 game in Salt Lake City, along with the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards and the Sacramento Kings’ De’Aaron Fox.
