The Boston Celtics are the 2024 NBA Champions.
The storied club stomped the Dallas Mavericks 106-88 tonight, giving Boston a so-called “gentlemen’s sweep” of the series, 4 games to 1.
Tonight’s victory means the Celtics are once again the winningest team in professional basketball, with 18 titles. Previously, they had been tied with their archenemies Los Angeles Lakers at 17 apiece. That makes tonight’s victory all the more sweet for Celtics faithful.
Boston dominated the series with their man-on-man defense against Mavericks’ all stars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, two of the most potent scorers in the league. Boston’s Jaylen Brown, who led his team’s lock-down defense while averaging 20 points per game, was named Finals Mvp.

The last time these teams crossed paths in the postseason was back in 2016, where the Thunder emerged victorious with a 4-1 series win. Heading into this matchup, the Thunder also hold a 3-1 regular-season record over the Mavericks.
Key to this matchup are the two Kia Mvp finalists: Luka Doncic for the Mavericks and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for the Thunder. This will mark their first playoff encounter.
Doncic can rely on the experience and firepower of veteran guard Kyrie Irving, while Gilgeous-Alexander benefits from the emergence of rising star Jalen Williams. Both teams have bolstered their rosters with key acquisitions, adding depth to complement their star players.

The singer shared screenshots on social media of emails that welcomed him to the festivities, including a mock-up of the blue uniform he would be wearing while on the celebrity team coached by Lil Wayne.
“I was asked by the NBA to play in the all star game this year! Only for them to call later and say they couldn’t do It because of their sponsors, like Ruffles,” Brown wrote on his Instagram Story. “At this point I’m sick of people bothering me and I’m tired of living in the fucking past.”

Buy low, sell high. Mark Cuban just proved himself a master of that tried-and-true investment mantra.
The Shark Tank mainstay is not only swimming away from that show after 14 successful seasons, he has now received approval from the NBA Board of Governors to sell the majority stake in his beloved Dallas Mavericks.
Cuban bought the Mavericks for $285 million in 2000 is now selling the team for about $3.5 billion. That’s a cool $3-plus billion over the purchase price and Cuban will reportedly retain 27% of the team and may well retain control of basketball operations. A pretty sweet deal.
Per Yahoo Sports:
Cuban is selling at a time franchise values are rising (in part based on a new national television broadcast deal starting in 2025 [that is] expected to double that national revenue) and likely expansion will bring a flood of cash to teams’ bottom lines (through expansion fees). It’s a great season to be a Minnesota Timberwolves fan, with the team currently leading the NBA‘s Western Conference. Stars Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards have undeniable chemistry; veteran Mike Conley shows real leadership on the court; center Rudy Gobert is gunning for his fourth Defensive Player of the Year award. This is the kind of basketball you can get excited about.
But the Timberwolves have an additional, not-so-secret weapon you won’t see at the Target Center in Minneapolis. In fact, he’s never even been there.

Although there’s a good deal of uncertainty surrounding Bally Sports regional sports networks this year, there are still 15 NBA teams scheduled to play on these channels.
It would be highly disingenuous to suggest that things are rolling along as planned for Bally Sports regional sports networks. Their parent company Diamond Sports Group (Dsg) has been in bankruptcy court since March with no end in sight; in fact, the company just asked the presiding judge for more time to present its bankruptcy reorganization plan.
There are 15 NBA teams whose local broadcast rights are still held by Dsg and Bally Sports, and as it stands those teams are scheduled to appear on their regular Rsn despite the bankruptcy proceedings. The league has been working with Diamond to help it stay afloat this season, but its contract with the company stipulates that if even one rights payment to one team is missed,...

Update: Austin Reaves is returning to the Los Angeles Lakers. Reaves, a restricted free agent, agreed to a four-year, $56 million Early Bird maximum contract. He proved himself this season, averaging 16.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists for the Lakers in 16 playoff games.
The Lakers also reached a deal for guard D’Angelo Russell to return on a two-year, $37 million deal, ESPN reported. The Lakers also signed free agent cente Jaxson Hayes.
The deals keep General Manager Rob Pelinka’s promise to keep his team’s young core together. Pelinka is eyeing the future, when 38-year-old LeBron James is likely to no longer be with the team. James’s contract runs through the 2024-2025 season.
Earlier: Forget that fever dream of Kyrie Irving reuniting with LeBron James for one last charge at a championship.

“It is hard to name a basketball agent more respected across the league than Bill. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have him and his team fully join WME Sports as we continue this chapter of tremendous growth,” said Karen Brodkin and Josh Pyatt, co-heads of WME Sports. “BDA has been a great addition to WME Sports as a whole and we’re...

WME has acquired full ownership of BDA Sports Management, which has built up a formidable client list of NBA players during its 25 years in business.
BDA founder Bill Duffy will join WME Sports as head of its basketball division and BDA agents, staff and clients will be under the WME umbrella after the official close of the deal.
In 2020, WME had taken a minority position in BDA, which was founded in 1998 and has repped many top-tier players, among them 30 NBA Draft lottery picks, 44 All-Stars and 15 winners of an NBA title. BDA’s current roster includes more than 40 NBA players, among them Luka Dončić, Scottie Barnes, Rj Barrett and Deandre Ayton.

WME has unveiled a deal to acquire the remaining stake in BDA Sports Management that it does not already own in the sports representation firm, and plans to make agent Bill Duffy head of the basketball division at WME Sports.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the Beverly Hills-based agency earlier bought a minority stake in the Black-owned sports agency that Duffy founded more than 30 years ago, and as chairman and CEO advised WME Sports’ basketball representation practice before cementing ties.
BDA agents, staff and clients will operate under WME Sports once the deal closes as scheduled on April 1.

With the Super Bowl in our rearview, it’s time to turn our attention to basketball for the 2023 NBA All-Star Game.

Pascal Siakam is going to the 2023 NBA All-Star game.
After the Toronto Raptors forward was initially snubbed of All-Star status earlier this month — to the chagrin of many in the 6ix — a spot was freed up for Siakam as an All-Star replacement due to Kevin Durant’s injury.
Siakam was named Friday as one of three reserve replacements by NBA commissioner Adam Silver for the Feb. 19 game in Salt Lake City, along with the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards and the Sacramento Kings’ De’Aaron Fox.

The Dallas Mavericks have a problem. They have a star player in Luka Dončić, a generational talent who can handle, score, pass, boards Ok, has an eerie step-back three-point shot, good size, the exact sort of dude you want on your team. Aside from Luka, they are packing a bunch of role players. Last year, the Mavs won 52 games, beat an openly-choking Suns team in the second round, and lost to the Warriors in the Western Conference Finals. Luka, it appeared, had made it. He was a shit-hot boy from...

For many of us basketball fans, the NBA’s Christmas games are better than any gifts under the tree. Every year we get a string of huge matchups featuring the league’s top teams and, best of all, we’re (usually) at home all day with family and friends, ready to enjoy the games.
