Though John never enrolled in the program UM as he decided to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Architecture at Auburn University (2004-2008). During his time at Auburn, he was influenced by professor Magdalena Garmaz, who had work on several theater productions while teaching in the Architecture program.
While In college, John played with various artists and formed the band Hellakopta of Love (HOL), an experimental improv rock band. He played the Hammond 333 Colonnade, and was heavily influenced by John Medeski of Medeski Martin and Wood.
John Graduated in December 2008 with a Bachelor's in Architecture and Design Construction, and pursued the practice of architecture for 8 years in Montgomery Alabama. During this time he was intrinsic to the City of Montgomery's downtown revitalization efforts, working on the "Alley" entertainment district project as well as project design for a number of properties including local hot-spots AlleyBar, Aviator Bar, SandBar, and Central Restaurant. He invited her to join a reincorporated version of HOL but the project fizzles as he and she began writing together. The songs written were briefly performed under the HOL moniker, but were tabled as other band members suggested they had something going that went beyond the project. These early songs became the basis for the founding of Space Folk Band, Electric Blue Yonder which is still active to this day.
In December 2014, John stepped away from his position at 166 Commerce development to pursue community engagement and personal projects. This exploration led John to co-found the 5 Points Cultural Commission with grant awards and match funding from Art Place America and various source in the amounts over 300k. Through his work in community revitalization, he met Art Director Dane More and Production Designer Eloise Crane Stammerjohn. Dane and Eloise hired John on for help with several projects and then later asked him to step into the Television & film production world as a Set Designer.
After joining Local IATSE 479 John continued working as a computer modeler and renderer for several notable projects including Omnimax's Equinox and Knottwood brands. The band, Electric Blue Yonder, released their first Ep in 2017 (as Blue Yonder) and began touring through the South East. They became 'Electric' Blue yonder when featured on an episode of "The Zimmern List" (S2E4) at Birmingham Alabama's Saw's Juke Joint.
Electric Blue Yonder released their first full length Album, Between Space and Time, February 29th 2020, just two weeks before the Pandemic took hold in the United States.
