Matis is also the co-founder of the eco-tourism organization, TreeHouse. TreeHouse place fosters unique experiences and places in natural preserves using eco-friendly system of knots, wood beams, planks and ropes.
Seasonal platform systems allows to create pop-up hotels, watchtowers, cafes, theatres and interactive art installations among the treetops away from the city and a step closer to nature
TreeHouse place, created in 2015 summer is an ongoing collaboration project between Riga Technical university architecture students and outdoor organisation Adventure spirit (Piedzivojuma Gars).
Together our aim is bringing people closer to the nature by providing seasonal platforms from nature friendly materials.
TreeHouse place platforms are built using a system of ties, knots and pulleys, thus providing safer and more enjoyable experience than traditional construction methods which includes drilling holes trough trees for supporting steel beams and anchors.
Such approach allows construction in nature parks and reservations where construction works usually are prohibited or limited. After the project concludes, most of the materials, beams and ropes are reusable in building other TreeHouses.
During our first 3 years as a proof of concept we have built more than 15 platforms in Latvia, Kegums municipality, Riga and Strenci which have been used as outdoor performance stages, summer camping locations, watchtowers, pop-up cafes and art installations.
Look out for next TreeHouse place projects in following years, in Latvia, Norway, Netherlands, Denmark and other European countries.
