The 2018 MTV Movie and TV Award nominations were announced on Thursday, May 3, in 14 categories, with additional categories and honors to be announced at a later date. The winners will be announced during a live ceremony on Monday, June 18, at the Barker Hangar in Los Angeles, California. And the festivities will be hosted for the first time by comedian Tiffany Haddish, who picked up nominations of her own for Best Comedic Performance and Best Scene Stealer for her breakout turn in “Girls Trip,” which is also up for Best Movie. Scroll down to see the complete list of contenders.
The MTV Movie Awards have been handed out since 1992, but they didn’t start recognizing TV shows until just last year when “Stranger Things” claimed the inaugural award for Best Show. MTV has unveiled nominations for the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards, and it looks like Oscar Best Picture winner The Shape of Water and Darkest Hour were totally shut out. However, the pop culture phenomenon known as Black Panther clawed its way to the top with seven nominations. On the television side, Netflix’s Stranger Things came out of the upside down to nab a leading six nominations.
The ceremony is set for June 18 at the Barker Hangar in Los Angeles to be hosted by stand-up comedian and Girls Trip breakout Tiffany Haddish (also a nominee this year for Best Comedic Performance). Until last year, the annual ceremony was known as the MTV Movie Awards. Now, the event has gone the Golden Globes route by including television series. And in an effort to challenge the status quo and make sure everyone know this is a “woke” awards show, the ceremony features gender-neutral categories.

MTV’s love affair with This Is Us proved short-lived. The cabler unveiled its nominations for the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards on Thursday and NBC’s top-rated drama — which led al TV contenders in 2017 with four nods — was completely shut out this year.

The following contains spoilers for “Ready Player One.”
As Ernest Cline and Zak Penn adapted “Ready Player One” into a Steven Spielberg movie, they wanted to create a sequence that featured a film within the film for one of the contests mounted by the Oasis founder James Halliday. They first proposed Rutger Hauer chasing the kids in a sequence reimagining the original Ridley Scott “Blade Runner”; Warners shot that down, as the studio was about to release “Blade Runner 2049.”
So Cline and Penn came up with another ’80s classic released by Warners from a world-class auteur, one revered by Spielberg: Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of Stephen King’s horror classic “The Shining.” They never thought Spielberg would agree to it. After all, Kubrick and Spielberg had been friends; when Kubrick finished shooting “The Shining” at London’s Elstree Studios, Spielberg took over the Overlook Hotel set to film the...

Well, if ya’ can’t beat em’, join em’. Or exploit em’. And “piggy-back” on em’. An old adage, but that’s been the thinking of the movie studios whenever they’re threatened by other forms of entertainment. Too many folks are staying at home, listening to the radio, rather than filling the movie houses? Turn some of the big radio stars into movie stars (as with Jack Benny and Bob Hope) and make some films based on the popular radio series (as Columbia did with Blondie, which was based on the still-running newspaper comic strip). And what supplanted the radio as the preferred home-based entertainment? Television, adding visuals to keep the “bijou” neighborhood theatres empty. This time the studios offered gimmicks and enhancements that the then tiny screens couldn’t match: 3D, stereophonic sound, and Cinemascope, which lead to Cinerama, not to mention the tricks and tools spearheaded by...

Anyone who read the novel Ready Player One knew that it both would make for a fun movie and also would be really hard to adapt. Jam packed with pop culture references and dense with callbacks, it could be overwhelming and one note in the wrong hands. Enter Steven Spielberg. This week, Ready Player One hits theaters and represents Spielberg having a ton of fun. He was the perfect choice to adapt Ernest Cline’s novel, elevating the enjoyable source material into a work of pop art. This is the most fun that any film has been so far in 2018. You’re watching a master at work, one who is loving every moment of this movie too. Trust me when I say, it shows. It’s an absolute blast. This epic takes place in the future, after society has come down a few pegs. Most people spend their free time getting away from it all,...

In Steven Spielberg’s new film Ready Player One, a group of idealistic outsiders join forces to fight The Man from taking control over the world’s favorite past time — exploring and playing in a complex virtual world called the Oasis. In the film, those idealists are known as the High Five (The Man is a villainous corporation known as Ioi). People has an exclusive look at a featurette that introduces the five characters via the actors who play them: Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Lena Waithe, and newcomers Win Morisaki and Philip Zhao.

Two of the unsung heroes of Steven Spielberg’s latest blockbuster Ready Player One, are young actors Win Morisaki and Philip Zhao, who play Daito and Sho, respectively. To mark the film’s release we sat down with the talented, entertaining duo.
We discussed with the pair the casting process and what it meant to them to be given a role of this nature – as well as how surreal it still is seeing their face up on the big screen. We also asked what their avatar name would be if they were to play in the Oasis, while Morisaki tells us which video game he excels at best.
Meanwhile Zhao tells us if acting is what he’d now like to do for a living, and Morisaki – a famous singer in Japan – explains whether he plans to continue mixing the two as he progresses in his career.

An affectionate ode to ‘70s and ‘80s pop culture wrapped in a bold vision of a future where reality and unreality are no longer binary concepts, or an insufferable procession of cultural name-drops revelling unquestioningly in the echo-chamber of nostalgia? However you view Ernest Cline’s 2011 debut novel Ready Player One, it’s undoubtedly an impressive piece of world-building. And if you’re going to choose a filmmaker to realise that vision, you could do worse than Steven Spielberg. (I mean, he already tarted up a pretty limited novel by the name of Jaws…)

Warner Bros. have released over 50 new images from Ready Player One, showcasing Steven Spielberg‘s return to blockbuster filmmaking. Based on the Earnest Kline novel of the same name, Ready Player One follows Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) as he navigates a virtual reality world dubbed “The Oasis” in search of Special “easter eggs” that will grant the user full control over the virtual environment. Ironically enough, the film was made using a combination of Vr and Motion Capture technology. Considering that the film is loaded with fourth-wall breaking easter-eggs, it will be interesting to see how Spielberg, along with long-time cinematographer Janusz Kaminski will handle the self- reverential nature of the source material.
Regardless, the screenplay Ready Player One was written by Cline and Zak Penn, and the film also stars Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Lena Waithe, Mark Rylance, Simon Pegg, T.J. Miller, Philip Zhao, Win Morisaki, and Hannah John-Kamen.

Opening on Friday, March 29 is Warner Bros. Pictures and Amblin Entertainment’s Ready Player One. In the Vanity Fair review, Joanna Robinson says Steven Spielberg’s latest film, “is in every way a spiritual ode to the boy’s adventure genre he made so popular in the 80s. There is a heart beating at the center of The Goonies, E.T., Raiders of the Lost Ark, and more—but in Ready Player One, audiences will instead find a gleaming, digital, golden Easter egg.”

Steven Spielberg‘s long awaited adaptation of Ready Player One is less than two weeks away, and the film’s marketing blitz seems to be in full effect. Although Ready Player One recently saw it’s seemingly final trailer just a few days ago, there was one glaring omission that I completely missed: the lack of John Williams music. The film will mark only the second time in Spielberg’s illustrious career that Williams will not have scored one of his films.
Stepping in for Williams on this film is Alan Sylvestri, a long-time collaborator of Spielberg’s–but never on a film that he’s directed. This is surprising, considering that Silvesrri has been a mainstay of the Amblin family, composing scores for Back to the Future and Who Framed Rodger Rabbit?, as well as more recent scores such as the now-iconic Avengers theme.

Warner Bros. has released a final trailer for their impending adaptation of Ready Player One. The film has been touted as director Steven Spielberg‘s return to blockbuster filmmaking, and recently premiered to mostly critical acclaim at this year’s SXSW festival. We’ve seen a great deal of footage from the film in the past few months, but this trailer seems to reveal even more new footage that absolutely screams Spielberg, and completely revels in this. There’s too many references to count in this trailer, but my favorite one has to be from the long tracking shot in the middle of the trailer that points to Jurassic Park.

Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One escapism is the *exact* earthly distraction social media users have been generalizing and “debating” since announcements first landed. Created *for* “geeks,” *about* “geeks” and *by* “geeks” – that’s not a dig, mind you. If you’ve been raving about a nostalgia-stuffed trailer with more references than an entire season of I Love The 80s, welcome to your nastiest virtual wet dream. If you’ve been gathering others to raise pitchforks in protest, this two-and-a-half hour CGI name-dropper isn’t for you. Simple as Simon. How’s that for a straightforward take?

Director Steven Spielberg skipped the red carpet at Sunday’s premiere of “Ready Player One,” but surprised SXSW audiences by introducing the sci-fi adventure onstage. “This is not a film that we’ve made, this is — I promise you — a movie,” he informed the sold-out crowd at the Paramount Theatre, which gave him a long, raucous ovation. “It’s a movie that’s got to be seen on the big screen, and I’m wondering if this is a big-enough screen, because we made this with a lot of ambition to really fill the screens.”
The two-time Best Director Oscar-winner professed his love for the bestselling source material, written by Ernest Cline, who adapted his book with screenwriter Zak Penn (“X-Men: The Last Stand,” “The Incredible Hulk”). Spielberg’s goal was making a motion picture that would appeal to both video game enthusiasts and neophytes alike, although he falls in...

We've got some more Ready Player One goodies for you today! A new promo spot has been released that offers fans plenty of new footage including Batman climbing Mount Everest, more footage of The Iron Giant in action, and Chucky going ballistic.
I've also included high-resolution versions of those new posters for the film that pay tribute to classic movies of the past. These are much better versions of the ones we previously posted. The posters were inspired by The Goonies, Back to the Future, The Breakfast Club, Beetlejuice, Blade Runner, The Matrix, Labyrinth, Risky Business, Bullitt, The Lost Boys, Rambo, and The Iron Giant.
I've seen a lot of people giving those posters crap, but you know what? They were made all in good fun! It fits right in line with what this movie is about. I just assume the majority of the people who don't understand what is...

A series of new poster art promoting Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One has popped up on the streets of Hollywood. What I love about these latest posters is the fact that they pay tribute to several classic movies. The poster designs are done in the same style as the posters that were created for films like The Goonies, Back to the Future, The Breakfast Club, Beetlejuice, Blade Runner, The Matrix, Labyrinth, Risky Business, Bullitt, The Lost Boys, Rambo, and The Iron Giant.
The marketing for this film has been a lot of fun! We won't have to wait much longer before we actually get to see the movie!
The film is set in 2045, with the real world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But people have found salvation in the Oasis, an immersive virtual universe where you can go anywhere, do anything, be anyone. The Oasis was created...

Earlier this week we got a great piece of poster art for Ready Player One created by the talented Paul Shipper. Today we have a series of seven character motion posters to share with you for the upcoming Steven Spielberg-directed film. These posters consist of Parzival (Tye Sheridan), Art3mis (Olivia Cooke), and Aech (Lena Waithe). They also include our best look yet at Daito (Win Morisaki), and Shoto (Philip Zhao). Also featured are Anorak (Mark Rylance) and Sorrento (Ben Mendelsohn).
The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the Oasis, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the Oasis, sparking a contest that grips the entire world.

I've been waiting for something... anything to be revealed from Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One! We've hardly seen anything from the film or heard anything about it, but today we can share the official logo with you. Yeah, I know it's not much, but it's still exciting! It's probably a lot more exciting if you've read the book. If you haven't read the book, you're missing out on something really special. You should definitely read the book before the movie comes out!
Ready Player One is one of my most anticipated films of 2018. I'm hoping that we get to see some of the first images from the film sometime within the next couple of weeks before Comic-Con, where I'm pretty confident that Steven Spielberg will reveal the first trailer or at least a couple of clips.
I just want to see what Spielberg's vision of the Oasis looks like!

One of my most anticipated movies coming up is the big screen adaptation of Ready Player One. This is a story that encompasses a ton of the pop culture I love and grew up with. We've got some new photos and videos to share with you from the set of the film. The photos give us a look at some of the impressive set designs and the video features a car chase scene as well as footage of director Steven Spielberg hard at work. The movie is currently shooting in Birmingham, England, which is where these photos and video were taken.
The movie stars Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Simon Pegg, T.J. Miller, Ben Mendelsohn, T. J. Miller, Win Morisaki, Philip Zhao, Hannah John-Kamen, and Mark Rylance.
Ready Player One opens in theaters on March 30, 2018. To check out some previously-released set photos and other news regarding the highly anticipated film,...

Steven Spielberg is currently directing a big screen adaptation of the novel Ready Player One, which is a story that pays tribute to the awesomeness of the 1980s. The novel contains a ton of references to Spielberg's classic films, and we'll see a few of them in the movie but not all of them. The director previously explained that he cut a lot of his own references out except for the DeLoreon and apparently Gremlins.
Some set photos have surfaced featuring some wall art that will be in the background of the film and that wall art references Gremlins, DC's The Flash, what looks to be Street Fighter, and more. You can see all of the photos below thanks to Twitter user Michelle Green.
The movie stars Tye Sheridan as Wade Watts/Parzival, Olivia Cooke as Samantha Evelyn Cook/Art3mis), Ben Mendelsohn as Nolan Sorrento), Simon Pegg as...
