Angelica Nwandu had always had a weakness for celebrity gossip. So when she found herself unemployed in 2014 after quitting her job as an accountant to follow her dreams of becoming a screenwriter, she spent her free time in her cramped apartment in downtown Los Angeles consuming it and dishing about it with her friends, one of whom urged her to launch her own gossip site. The suggestion became an Instagram account she called The Shade Room (Tsr). Nwandu’s first post explained the name. “I said, ‘The Shade Room is the truth room,’ ” she recalls. “Shade goes deep into the culture. When you think about the Black diaspora, a lot of times we are so brutally honest with each other,” Nwandu says. “I see it as so much deeper than what it is portrayed as in the media. It’s portrayed as just being petty, but I think it has to do with survival.

“Transformers One” director Josh Cooley wanted an end credits song that captured the tone of his new animated feature. He had already enlisted composer Brian Tyler to compose the film’s score, and as they were putting the finishing touches together, Tyler was simultaneously juggling other projects and on the cusp of releasing his new immersive audio-visual project “Are We Dreaming.”
Cooley happened to be in the studio watching clips from “Are We Dreaming” and suggested taking the theme and turning it into a song. Tyler immediately got to work, pulling material from his audio-visual project. It started as an instrumental with influences of “trap, hip hop, leading into the momentum of a rock song,” explains Tyler. Once he had that, he came up with a few verses and even sang on the chorus for the work-in-process. The producers sent the song to Quavo. “He said, ‘I’m down. Let me go into the studio.

The first indication that Kamala Harris had knocked something loose — something that had stubbornly eluded Joe Biden, something with the power to transform the 2024 presidential race — surfaced in Wisconsin. Shortly after Biden tweeted his endorsement, RSVPs for a previously-scheduled Harris appearance at the Italian Community Center in Milwaukee began flooding in at a startling pace. The volume of responses sent the campaign scrambling to find a venue that could accommodate more than double its initial headcount, with a little more than a day’s notice. They settled on West Allis Central High School.

The Atlanta rap scene, like the rest of the music world, is still mourning the loss of Rich Homie Quan. Last week, the 33-year-old artist was found unresponsive in his girlfriend’s Atlanta home, leaving behind five children and an immense musical legacy. By the late 2010s, label woes had stalled his climb up toward the pop culture stratosphere, and those in the...

Transformers One is the untold origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron, better known as sworn enemies, but once were friends bonded like brothers who changed the fate of Cybertron forever. In the first-ever fully CG-animated Transformers movie, Transformers One features a star-studded voice cast, including Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi with Laurence Fishburne and Jon Hamm.
Quavo, Ty Dolla $ign, and Are We Dreaming (Composer – Brian Tyler) join forces on their new collaborative anthem, “If I Fall,” for Paramount Animation and Hasbro Entertainment’s upcoming motion picture Transformers One. The three superstars build off one another’s resilient verses, vowing to “take no prisoners” and refusing to give up when the odds are stacked against them. “It’s in my bloodline; I have too much pride,” declares Quavo on the track.
Directed by Josh Cooley, Transformers One is set to release September 20th.

“Rump Punch,” an early single from the Bronx drill Casanova Cash Cobain’s new album Play Cash Cobain, rides a glittering piano riff layered over the rapper-producer’s signature drums—boisterous and staggered, the air in between each drop packed with a sly romantic tension. Cash is a blueprint for a new kind of rap-r&b crossover. Lyrically, he’s able to turn top-tier raunchiness into something smoother (Pussy taste like rum punch,” he cooly raps on the track), all while he builds out a sonic universe that’s taking the rap world by storm.

On the heels of her new album Charm, Clairo has covered Lana Del Rey’s “Brooklyn Baby” for Spotify Singles.
Originally appearing on Lana Del Rey’s 2014 Dan Auerbach-produced sophomore LP Ultraviolence, “Brooklyn Baby” serves both as the artist’s love letter to and satirical lampooning of the Brooklyn-based “hipster” subculture that sprung up around the time of her early 2010s breakthrough — in our original review of Ultraviolence, Sasha Geffen referred to “Brooklyn Baby” as “the most millennial song ever written.”
Get Clairo Tickets Here
“Yeah, my boyfriend’s pretty cool/ But he’s not as cool as me,” goes one of Lana’s original lines, sung with effortless poise in Clairo’s dreamy, slightly slower rendition. The cover may not have the bells and whistles she imbued into the arrangements of the ’70s-inspired Charm, but it does feature Clairo’s signature honey-velvet singing voice. Listen to Clairo’s cover of “Brooklyn Baby” below.

Kamala Harris is set to hold a rally in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on Wednesday, August 7th with her to-be-announced running mate. Not only that, but she’ll be joined by Eau Claire natives Bon Iver, who will perform at the event.
