The contracts would include requesting productions put sustainable practices in place

Over 100 high-profile actors, including Mark Rylance, Hayley Atwell, David Harewood and Bill Nighy, have signed their support for Equity’s ‘Green Rider’ plan, which aims to boost sustainability in UK film and TV production.

The proposed Green Rider can be added to actors’ contracts in order to state their own sustainability commitments, and to negotiate bolder sustainability standards on set before accepting a job.

For actors, this would mean avoiding clauses in contracts that consume a lot of materials and carbon, like private jets, while they could also request...

Hayley Atwell, Bill Nighy, Mark Rylance and David Harewood are among a group of 100 actors supporting a new Green Rider contract intended to improve the sustainability of the U.K. film and TV industry.

Spearheaded by U.K. entertainment union Equity, the inclusion of a Green Rider is positioned as a “tool to empower artists” and provide a framework with which to negotiate better practices in film and TV. The rider would be included in standard Equity contracts.

Exclusive: Unorthodox star Shira Haas and Stephen Graham are to lead Netflix’s mind-bending graphic novel adaptation Bodies, rounding out main cast alongside Jacob Fortune-Lloyd (The Queen’s Gambit), Kyle Soller (The Inheritance) and Amaka Okafor (The Responder).

Graham will play Elias Mannix, a central character to the story, while Haas, who broke out in Shtisel, will play one of the investigating officers, DC Maplewood.

Exclusive: Netflix has greenlit a UK crime thriller adaptation of Si Spencer’s mind-bending graphic novel Bodies, Deadline can reveal, about four detectives in four different London eras who find themselves investigating the same murder.

The eight-parter is produced by Will Gould and Frith Tiplady’s Pursuit of Love producer Moonage Pictures and is created by No Offence and Torchwood writer Paul Tomalin.

The series, which is the latest to come from the UK as Netflix ramps up local production, is based on Spencer’s mind-bending 2015 graphic novel which starts with a murder in Whitechapel. Four different detectives are trying to solve the murder in different time periods: 1890s overachiever Edmond Hillinghead, dashing 1940s adventurer Karl Whiteman, kickass female 2010s Detective Sergeant Shahara Hasan and Maplewood, an amnesiac from post-apocalyptic 2050, who brings a haunting perspective.

Gangs of London’s second season is currently shooting ahead of its return to Sky and AMC next year.

Production got underway on the eight-part mob drama three weeks ago, with Pulse Films producing in association with Sister. No news yet though on whether Joe Cole will reprise his role as Sean Wallace after Season 1’s cliffhanger ending.

Hulu followed up her pic with a caption of their own that read, “In season two, Catherine becomes both a mother to Russia and a child.” But who’s the father to Catherine’s unborn baby: Nicholas Hoult‘s Peter III of Russia (her husband), Sebastian De Souza‘s Leo Voronsky (her lover) or someone else entirely? There’s still no official word on when the second season of the satirical comedy series will air, as it was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The Great” had a great SAG nominations morning, landing bids in Best Comedy Ensemble and Best Comedy Male Actor for Nicholas Hoult, but the empress herself was robbed. Elle Fanning did not get an individual citation for Best Comedy Female Actor for her turn as Catherine the Great, despite racking up Critics’ Choice and Golden Globe nominations for the performance. So why the discrepancy, SAG Awards?

Admittedly, Best Comedy Female Actor was a tough category to crack this year, with the five slots taken up by Catherine O’Hara and Annie Murphy from “Schitt’s Creek,” Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini from “Dead to Me” and Kaley Cuoco from “The Flight Attendant.” Thankfully for Fanning, she does technically have a nomination this year as part of the ensemble for “The Great,” so it is far from a disappointing day.

Paramount has released 8 new motion posters today for the hotly anticipated live action version of Ghost In The Shell. The anime adaptation, due for release March 31st, has been gradually gaining buzz following its impressive Super Bowl teaser trailer and with just over a month to go until it debuts, excitement is, understandably, quite high.

The new motion posters feature Scarlett Johansson’s Major Motoko Kusanagi, the first “full body prosthesis” cybernetic human, and the seven members of her elite Section 9 special ops team, played by Takeshi Kitano, Danusia Samal, Pilou Asbaek, Yutaka Izumihara, Lasarus Ratuere, Tawanda Manyimo and Chin Han.

The film, which appears to closely hew to the 1995 anime original, follows Major and Section 9 has they hunt for an enigmatic hacker known as the Puppet Master. Today Paramount Pictures released an exciting Super Bowl spot for Ghost in the Shell, and it offers some incredibly cool new footage. After some viral marketing and a truly tantalizing teaser, Paramount finally pulled back the lid on Ghost in the Shell this morning, revealing to the world just what an explosive, dazzling sci-fi epic they have planned for us. So far, reactions to the first full trailer have been slightly mixed though they’re definitely leaning more towards positive, and after watching it several times, we can say that we’re definitely happy with what we see.

The grand and stunning reveal came packing some gorgeous visuals, impressive production design, a definite Blade Runner vibe and poetic action sequences that have our jaws on the floor. All in all, it’s a truly exciting look at what might just be one of next year’s most explosive films.

The Hollywood adaptation of the sci-fi classic Ghost in the Shell will hit theatres on March 31, 2017. Executive producer Michael Costigan says that the upcoming live-action will be faithful to the manga. Although, producer Avi Arad says that they will pick and choose what elements they’ll include from the source manga or the previous TV and film adaptations.

In an interview for Collider.com, Arad sheds light on the movie’s plot:

“It involves Kuze. The Kuze story. The big thing we are doing here is that we’re not necessarily doing an origins backstory, but we are addressing her sense of self and resolving how she defines herself in terms of memories. That’s one of the main thrusts in the story. Inspired by that episode of Affection in Second Gig. It’s bits and pieces of those mixed together.”

Most of the conversation that I’ve seen among fans regarding the upcoming live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell is the controversy over Scarlett Johansson’s casting in the lead role. I’ve already shared my thoughts on why that might be the case here. Regardless of how you feel about her casting, the movie is happening, and judging from the series of brief teasers that I’ve seen it looks like it’s going to be awesome!

Production has begun in New Zealand on Ghost in the Shell—the live action film adaptation of the groundbreaking manga series of the same name—and the first photo of Scarlett Johansson as the cyborg Major has been revealed ahead of the film’s March 31st, 2017 release.
