A former CBS television news anchor is suing the network and Paramount Globa., claiming the company fired him last year for being a straight, white male.
Jeff Vaughn worked for Kcbs-tv (Channel 2) and Kcal (Channel 9) in Los Angeles for eight years, until he was dismissed from the Paramount-owned TV stations last September.
In a lawsuit filed in federal court this week, attorneys representing Vaughn claim he was “never given a reason for his firing,” but he suspects it had something to do with the network’s apparent desire to replace him with a younger, minority news anchor.
Vaughn’s attorneys say the news anchor suspected something was up last August, when he was told he would be terminated. He was given the opportunity to say goodbye to viewers on what was his last newscast with the station,...

Alissa Carlson Schwartz, a TV meteorologist in Los Angeles for CBS owned and operated Kcal, fainted Saturday morning on air.
The incident happened at the beginning of the 7 a.m. broadcast. Anchors Nichelle Medina and Rachel Kim were tossing it to Carlson for the morning weather report, when Carlson rested her arms on the desk, her eyes rolled back, and she leaned forwarded before falling out of her seat and onto the floor.
Both anchors were shocked and immediately asked to cut to a commercial break.
Kcal-tv never returned to their live newscast but instead aired pre-recorded and promotional programming before leading into their coverage of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, TMZ reported.

From the desert to the sea, all local newscasts airing on Los Angeles’ TV stations Kcbs-tv and Kcal-TV will be rebranded Kcal News as the Paramount Global-owned outlets seek to better capitalize on Kcal’s reputation for breaking news coverage.
As of today, the station previously known on air as KCAL9 will formally be branded as Kcal News in all dayparts. The refresh coincides with the today’s launch of a seven-hour morning news block on Kcal, starting at 4 a.m., that will also run in part on Kcbs, known on-air as CBS2.
The Kcal rebranding and the morning news push are initiatives championed by Wendy McMahon, president and co-head of CBS News and Television Stations, who joined Paramount Global from Disney in mid-2021.
McMahon told Variety the decision on adopting the Kcal News brand was born out of research showing that the Kcal moniker was immediately identified with live local news.
