Chip Flaherty
- Producer
Francis X. ("Chip") Flaherty, Jr. is an executive at SkyPath Media, a multimedia company producing The Lesson, a lifestyle brand of video programming where guests share stories of transformative life events.
Previously, Chip has had stints producing and executive producing films as an independent producer and before that enjoyed an extended tenure at Walden Media, a film and storytelling company founded in 2000. During that tenure, Walden Media produced over 30 films that grossed more than $3.5 Billion in Worldwide Box Office.
Chip also has enjoyed commercial and critical success in the world of publishing, as both Publisher and Agent. As Publisher, Chip oversaw Walden's entry into the book publishing industry. In 2006, he established a co-publishing venture with Penguin Young Readers Group, publishing the Newbery Honor-winning Savvy by first-time author Ingrid Law and Mike Lupica's The Comeback Kids series. In 2008, Chip founded the imprint Walden Pond, a joint venture with HarperCollins. During Chip's tenure as Publisher, Walden has produced a Newbery Honor Award book and many New York Times Best Sellers. As Agent, Chip has set up a number of book properties at various publishing houses, including the best selling Will Wilder series.
In the course of helping to market film and book projects over the years, Chip has become a trusted architect with film studios and publishing houses, developing specialized film and book marketing campaigns aimed at the family audience. The internationally successful Break a World Reading Record event launched in conjunction with the theatrical release of Charlotte's Web, and the Ticket to a Better World partnership with Read Across America during the theatrical release of The Giver, are two examples of innovative promotional initiatives implemented by Chip as components of overall film marketing campaigns.
To take advantage of the many film opportunities presented to him, in 2016 Chip began to produce and executive produce films independently outside of the Walden umbrella. Recent films include Mother's Day, starring Julia Roberts and Jennifer Anniston, The Great Gilly Hopkins, starring Octavia Spencer and Kathy Bates, The Little Prince, the star-studded animated adaptation of the literary classic, and the upcoming Fatima, starring Harvey Keitel and Sonia Braga.
Prior to his tenure at Walden Media, Mr. Flaherty served the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as an assistant district attorney and, later, as an assistant attorney general. While serving as an assistant attorney general, Flaherty issued decisions addressing over $1 Billion in publicly bid contracts. Mr. Flaherty is a graduate of Suffolk University Law School and The College of the Holy Cross.
