Matthew Nicholls is a writer-director-actor from Ipswich, Suffolk in the UK. He cites Quentin Tarantino, John Hughes, Kevin Smith, Matt Gissing/Malcolm Ingram and Richard Linklater as influences. He began film making in 2014 with his first release 'Mirror-Max'. Shot in one day, Nicholls used a Sony handy-cam to film this and all of his future movies. His first nine films are all black and white shorts and he has since made the transition to colour. He releases his films under his production company 'Generation Why Productions', he also co founded 'paul williams productions' with Rinaldo Dowsing. Matthew Nicholls sets all of his 'Generation Why' films in the same universe and therefore all his films contain elements and references to his past work. One of the constant features in all of his films is the character 'Trio the Clown' who is played by Nicholls himself. He has also acted in other films and works closely with his fellow Ipswich filmmakers.
