Ricardo J. Varona is an award-winning Puerto Rican writer and director based in NYC.
His work has gone to screen and win awards in Academy Award, Goya Award and BAFTA Qualifying Festivals and has been curated by the teams at Vimeo Staff Picks and Short of The Week. His short film "La mujer de Héctor" was also the recipient of the WarnerMedia OneFifty Latino Short Film Award at the 2022 edition of the Miami Film Festival.
Varona holds an MFA from Columbia University where he was a Milos Forman Directing Fellow. With strong roots in Puerto Rico, Varona has shot several short films on the island. His stories are intimate portraits of fraught families, sexual experiences that often border on the transgressive, and coming of age.
