At one point, Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke was set to play a big role in the Dceu. The plan was for Lex Luthor to reveal Batman’s secret identity to Slade Wilson in a post-credits scene in Justice League. This would have set up Deathstroke as the main villain in an earlier version of The Batman, which was supposed to be directed by Ben Affleck.
However, things changed when Affleck stepped down as director. Instead, Justice League’s theatrical version, directed by Joss Whedon, teased Deathstroke joining the “Injustice Society” in its post-credits scene. Although this shift disappointed many fans, there were still talks about a standalone Deathstroke film directed by Gareth Evans.
In September, reports suggested that DC Studios hired Captain America: Brave New World writer Matthew Orton to script a movie featuring both Deathstroke and Bane. Some even speculated it might secretly be a Secret Six project. Meanwhile,...

There was a time when Joe Manganiello's Deathstroke was being lined up for a huge role in the Dceu. Original plans called for the villain to learn Batman's secret identity in Justice League's post-credits scene (courtesy of Lex Luthor), setting the stage for him to hunt down Bruce Wayne in the pre-Robert Pattinson version of The Batman.
That all changed when Ben Affleck decided not to direct the movie, leading to Joss Whedon's Justice League showing Slade Wilson being enlisted to the "Injustice Society" instead. Despite the change, there were later rumblings about a Deathstroke spin-off helmed by The Raid's Gareth Evans.
In September, the trades reported that DC Studios had tapped Captain America: Brave New World writer Matthew Orton to pen a Deathstroke/Bane team-up movie. Many have wondered whether it's really a Secret Six project and James Gunn has confirmed on multiple...

Following an initial online rumor, we got confirmation that a live-action Teen Titans movie was in the works at DC Studios back in March with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow writer Ana Nogueira enlisted to pen the script.
Updates have been few and far between since, but a recent Production Weekly logline did claim to reveal the key team members: "The Teen Titans are further apart than ever before… until Damian Wayne recruits Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy and the new Kid Flash to join him in a fight against his own grandfather, Ra’s al Ghul."
However, we'd later hear that the movie will focus on a "pre-existing team being revived," which suggested that the roster would more likely consist of the original '60s comic book line-up: Kid Flash (Wally West), Robin (Dick Grayson), Aqualad (Garth) and Wonder Girl (Donna Troy).
Now, scooper Daniel Richtman is reporting that the movie's...

When James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios, they revealed a large list of upcoming projects across animation, live-action, TV shows, and movies.
In addition to the projects already in development, new ones like Dynamic Duo and Teen Titans have been announced, while some, like the rumored Clayface movie, are still speculative.
Recently, industry insider Daniel Richtman shared a new set of leaks on his private Patreon, mostly focused on lesser-known projects within the Dcu.
Let’s start with the Bane & Deathstroke movie. A few weeks ago, it was announced that DC Studios is working on a live-action film featuring these two iconic villains. The script is written by Matthew Orton, but no director has been confirmed yet.
Details about the movie are scarce, and it’s still unclear whether it will be part of the main Dcu or set in another cinematic universe, like the Batman Epic Crime Saga.

Back in September, we got word that two of the Dark Knight's most formidable foes are set to forces for a new live-action Dcu movie, with a Bane and Deathstroke project officially in development at DC Studios.
Details were few and far between and no director was attached at the time, but Captain America: Brave New World writer Matthew Orton was said to be working on the script.
A follow-up report suggested that other characters might also appear, as it wasn't clear whether Bane and Deathstroke "would be the central figures of the project." This led to speculation that it could actually be another supervillain team-up, possibly even a Secret Six movie.
James Gunn never actually commented on the report, but he has now confirmed that plans are in place to introduce Slade Wilson (at least) to the Dcu at some point.

‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Teases Red Hulk Showdown With Anthony Mackie’s Cap in New Trailer
Cap is back… again!
Marvel unveiled the latest trailer for “Captain America: Brave New World” at the first-ever D23 Brazil fan event on Saturday. Anthony Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson/Captain America, and Danny Ramirez, who portrays Joaquin Torres/Falcon, were there to greet fans before the new trailer was shown.
The film includes Mackie as Sam Wilson, Harrison Ford’s U.S. President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, Ramirez as the new Falcon, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Shira Haas as the Israeli superhero Sabra, Giancarlo Esposito as Sidewinder, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross and Tim Blake Nelson as the Leader.
Mackie took over the Cap mantle from Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, who famously starred in the previous three Captain America movies and the four Avengers films. At the end of 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” Steve bids farewell to his fellow superheroes and goes back in time to spend a new life with his beloved Peggy Carter.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been in a holding pattern of late. The once all-powerful franchise that dominated the box office for a decade plus to the delight of comic book fans and disdain of cinephiles started experiencing turbulence in 2021 with the mixed response to "Eternals" before finding the ditch a year ago with "The Marvels." When Jonathan Majors, who'd been cast as Kang (aka the franchise's next Thanos), was convicted of assault and harassment, Marvel Studios was forced to find a new way forward.
The MCU hit a throwing save this summer with "Deadpool & Wolverine," an inherited franchise from what is now known as 20th Century Studios. The film didn't push the overall narrative forward, but it made a barge-full of cash and bought them some time as the prepare to take their first step forward post-Majors with "Captain America: Brave New World."

The very first test-screenings for Captain America: Brave New World (then known as New World Order) were said to have been met with a mostly negative response, which is believed to have prompted Marvel Studios to order extensive reshoots.
Additional photography for the sequel took place over a 4-month period, with Marvel enlisting Moon Knight writer Matthew Orton to pen new scenes and material for the film. Reshoots are the norm (especially for major studio tentpoles), but such a significant period of AP led to speculation that the studio must be making some major changes to the story.
Some new test-screenings reportedly took place last week, and, based on what we're hearing, this version of the movie didn't go over much better.
Apparently, two screenings were held, with attendees split into groups with either a green or red bracelet. An initial report from World of Reel claimed that two cuts of the film were shown,...

Two of Batman’s most popular foes, Bane and Deathstroke, are set to share the screen as Warner Bros’ new look DC Universe continues to take shape.
Both Bane and Deathstroke have graced cinema screens before. When it comes to the comic books, the duo are among the more beloved members of Batman’s colourful cast of villains, and it looks like that popularity has led to a supervillain team-up movie that will introduce the characters to James Gunn’s all-new DC Universe.
Next year will see Warner Bros’ new line of DC movies kick off with Superman: Legacy, written and directed by Gunn himself. Following that, a string of films have been announced including a Batman movie, The Brave And The Bold and Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow. Then there are planned TV shows such as HBO’s Lanterns, a space cop series that will feature the Green Lantern corps.

Yesterday evening, the news broke that DC Studios is developing a Bane & Deathstroke (Deathstroke & Bane?) team-up movie from Captain America: Brave New World writer Matthew Orton.
For fans of the iconic villains, this came as an exciting development, even if it does seem a little odd for James Gunn and Peter Safran to seemingly be prioritising these two over the likes of Batman and Wonder Woman.
It didn't take long for some fans to point out that this feels like a blatant way to try and emulate Deadpool & Wolverine's success. However, there could be more to the project than meets the eye.
According to Deadline's report, "Exact plot details are still uncertain and sources also stressed the two characters would be in the movie but it’s unclear if they would be the central figures of the project."
In other words, it may not be a feature revolving solely around the two Batman villains.

Villains really are the new superheroes.
DC Studios has tapped screenwriter Matthew Orton (“Captain America: Brave New World”) to write a feature film that will involve Batman villains Bane and Deathstroke, Variety has confirmed. The project is still in its infancy: There are no stars or director attached, and DC Studios chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran have been clear that they will not greenlight a project until they are satisfied with a complete screenplay.
The movie follows a growing trend in the superhero space of projects focusing as much on the villains as on the heroes, from the ongoing HBO series “The Penguin” and Disney+ series “Agatha All Along” to Warner Bros. upcoming sequel “Joker: Folie à Deux” and Sony’s upcoming Marvel adaptations “Venom: The Last Dance” and “Kraven the Hunter.”

James Gunn's new cinematic DC Universe doesn't even officially kick off until this December with "Creature Commandos." Yet, a new film has already been added to the slate. Batman villains Bane and Deathstroke will appear together in a new movie at the James Gunn and Peter Safran-led DC Studios, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Introduced in the early 1990s, the brutish Bane is best known for Tom Hardy’s menacing portrayal of the character in the 2012 Christopher Nolan film The Dark Knight Rises. More recently, a comical take on Bane has been voiced by James Adomian in the animated series Harley Quinn.

With the HBO series The Penguin and the upcoming sequel Joker: Folie a Deux already earning rave reviews, DC Studios doesn’t look to be done focusing on Batman bad guys. Sources confirm to Deadline that the studio is in early development on a new movie involving classic Gotham villains Bane and Deathstroke. Matthew Orton has been set to pen the script, with DC Studio co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran producing.
No director is attached, and the studio had no comment.
Exact plot details are still uncertain and sources also stressed the two characters would be in the movie but it’s unclear if they would be the central figures of the project.
Both characters are beloved to fans of the comics, with Bane especially gaining popularity over the years after Christopher Nolan made him the main antagonist in The Dark Knight Rises, with Tom Hardy playing the main role.

DC loves spotlighting its villains, and THR reports that another villain-centric project is in the works. The outlet has heard that DC Studios is developing a movie that will unite Bane and Deathstroke. Matthew Orton, who worked on Captain America: Brave New World, has penned the script but no director is attached to the project.
DC has always excelled at highlighting villains, with the recently released Penguin series starring Colin Farrell as an example. We’ve also got Joker: Folie à Deux coming next week. I’ll confess that I’m not a big comic-book guy, so Deathstroke and Bane seem like a random pairing, but I’m sure the more comic-literate among you will be able to set me right. Maybe they’re good buds.

Deathstroke
Deathstroke was created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez. He is a mercenary and assassin who first appeared in the “New Teen Titans” #2 back in 1980. Wizard magazine rated him the 24th greatest villain of all time.
In 2009, Deathstroke was ranked as IGN’s 32nd greatest comic book villain of all time. Deathstroke, also known as Deathstroke the Terminator or simply Slade, is known to be the greatest assassin in all of DC Comics.
Deathstroke was meant to be a one-off villain for the Teen Titans, his story being that he took over a contract to kill the team after his son succumbed to his own superhuman enhancements. Instead, he was...

Daisy Ridley’s new thriller, Cleaner, has found UK and Irish distribution with Sky and can be expected to land in 2025.
To counterbalance the rather disappointing news that Daisy Ridley’s next outing as Rey in a galaxy far, far away is further delayed, we’ve got some positive news on the actor’s next film.
Ridley will appear in Cleaner, an upcoming thriller in which she plays an ex-soldier, now working as a window cleaner, who gets caught up in a hostage situation as a group of activists take over an energy company’s gala event. The night takes an even more dangerous turn when one of the activists turns out to be an extremist who’s not afraid to murder everyone in the building.

Devil’s Peak, directed by Matthew Orton, dives into the tricky question: How do we know who the villain is? On the outside, it’s easy to see someone who kills as a bad guy. But, sometimes, their hidden motives tell a different story. Take Thobela Mpayipheli, also known as “The Hunter.” He goes after people who have hurt children, taking justice into his own hands. Why? Because Mpayipheli knows that if he leaves it up to the police or the courts, the system will protect the wealthy and powerful white people, not the oppressed black community. So, Mpayipheli decides to take matters into his own hands, one criminal at a time. But, of course, this puts him on the police radar. Detective Benjamin Griessel, who’s battling his own demons with alcoholism and family issues, is the one chasing him down. The question is, can Benny catch a man who some see as a hero,...

Here's What Harrison Ford Had to Say about Playing Red Hulk for the Right Price - Main Image
In the upcoming Marvel film Captain America: Brave New World, Harrison Ford, who has starred in both Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies, will make his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, a role previously portrayed by the late actor William Hurt.
What did Harrison Ford say about Red Hulk?
Speaking to Variety, Ford, who is now starting a new journey, said that he was mostly reliant on motion-capture technology to transform Ross, the US President Thaddeus, into Red Hulk.
What was his opinion on this? He said, "What did it take? It took not caring. It took being an idiot for money, which I've done before."
Further, he added, "I don't mean to disparage it," "I'm just saying you have to do certain things that normally...

If you thought Red Hulk would be the only Hulk appearing in Captain America: Brave New World, think again.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly at Sdcc, Brave New World star Anthony Mackie revealed that the film will feature multiple Hulks.
"The events of Hulk and his film don't pertain to this movie at all," began Mackie. He added, "And when he shows up, not Red Hulk, the other Hulk- there are multiple Hulks..."
At this point Harrison Ford taps Mackie, seemingly as if he's surprised to learn this info (or possibly even to stop Mackie from saying more), but Mackie continues on, stating, "But there's only one Red Hulk, there's only one."
"When he shows up, his world, his universe, his story- it's completely separate from the way we utilize him in our story."

Out of the three main films that Marvel Studios focused on at Sdcc yesterday evening, the film with the most moving parts just might be Captain America: Brave New World.
The film will introduce adamantium to the MCU and features the Leader, the Serpent Society, and Red Hulk. Not to mention, it seems Bucky wasn't the only brainwashed, former super soldier based on what happens to Isaiah Bradley in the film's first trailer.
While on the Sdcc press line, actor Tim Blake Nelson told Deadline that he was initially heartbroken when it became apparent that there wouldn't be a second, standalone Hulk movie. But in reality, he needed the time that passed in order to become an actor who could do justice to the character of the Leader.

“Captain America: Brave New World” electrified Comic-Con on Saturday with cast members Anthony Mackie, Tim Blake Nelson, Danny Ramirez and Giancarlo Esposito all hitting the San Diego fan event to tease the superhero sequel. But it was the late panel surprise arrival of Harrison Ford that left the biggest impact as the film icon took the Hall H stage to massive applause. Footage from the movie was screened during Marvel’s presentation and confirmed that Ford’s Thunderbolt Ross will, indeed, be transforming into the Red Hulk in the film. Ford gave the crowd exactly what they wanted, mimicking the Hulk’s mighty roar.

Marvel has just dropped a trailer for the upcoming “Captain America: Brave New World” film, which will be released on Valentine’s Day 2025. This film takes a more spy-thriller, espionage angle, which works for Sam Wilson’s (Anthony Mackie) Captain America, as he was never given the super serum.
The trailer finally gives us a look at the film that has been renamed, delayed, and has faced many reshoots. It was rumored that the original did not test well with audiences.
Take a look!
Of course, everyone is excited because we get to see Red Hulk, which was leaked months ago with the early release of the McDonald’s Happy Meal toys tie-in.

After months of delays and reports of extraordinarily expensive reshoots, we finally have the first trailer for Captain America: Brave New World. Despite the extensive changes made to the film since it was first announced (including its title), it looks like the fourth Cap movie will deliver on the action-packed, Hulk-busting political thrills as promised. Check out the trailer below.
Production on Captain America: Brave New World initially wrapped in June 2023, but as Marvel retooled their more-is-more approach to content, the studio also made the call to rework the movie. Reportedly, an entire subplot involving supervillain team the Serpent Society was removed, while a new antagonist played by Giancarlo Esposito (reportedly the X-Men-adjacent S.H.I.E.L.D. agent G.W. Bridge) was added in over the course of months of reshoots.

Cap is back!
Marvel Studios has released the first trailer for “Captain America: Brave New World,” the fourth Captain America movie and the first starring Anthony Mackie’s flying superhero Sam Wilson, formerly known as Cap’s sidekick the Falcon.
Mackie takes the Cap mantle over from Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, who famously starred in the previous three “Captain America” movies and the four “Avengers” movies. At the end of 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” Steve bids farewell to his fellow superheroes and goes back in time to spend a new life with his beloved Peggy Carter. He gives his iconic vibranium shield to Sam, who vows to do right by the world-famous hero.
In the new trailer, Sam is greeted by Harrison Ford’s U.S. president Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who wants to make Captain America a U.S. agent. The action heats up quickly as the superhero stops a would-be assassin at the White House.

Anthony Mackie is adjusting to a new world order. The actor stars as Sam Wilson in Captain America: Brave New World, the Marvel Studios film that is described as a grounded political thriller that hearkens back to the 2014 feature Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Harrison Ford makes his Marvel debut as General Ross, the role previously played in the MCU by the late William Hurt, who wants to bring Captain America aboard in an official military position after being elected president. Wilson seemingly works to uncover a nefarious global plot – and eagle-eyed fans will spot the brief glimpse of Ford, as the Red Hulk, going head-to-head with Cap.
Mackie has played Sam Wilson since Winter Soldier, which introduced him as the hero The Falcon, an ally of Chris Evans’ Captain America.

Much has been said about Captain America: Brave New World's reshoots, though the prevailing opinion among social media's scoopers (and the trades) is that the intention has always been to fix the movie's action scenes, not the story.
Today, we bring word that the 2025 movie's additional photography is finally completed. The news comes from crew members who went online to celebrate what will be the final movie worked on by veteran first assistant director Michele Panelli-Venetis.
We're also hearing that Creed III fight coordinator Mark R. Miscione was tapped to serve in the same role for Captain America: Brave New World's reshoots. Those have seen Giancarlo Esposito board the movie in a mystery role and, supposedly, scrapped the Serpent Society.
Most of the cast appear to have been involved with the reshoots, including The Incredible Hulk star Tim Blake Nelson.

Rumours have swirled about Giancarlo Esposito possibly boarding the MCU for a few years now. However, two characters who have repeatedly been mentioned by fans are Professor X and Magneto.
With Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot on the horizon, both seemed like a very real possibility. The Breaking Bad star has never shied away from playing into the rumours, though eventually admitted he'd like to play someone a little more proactive than Charles Xavier.
The actor will get his chance with what looks to be an action-packed role in Captain America: Brave New World. While Esposito has been spotted in set photos, we have no idea who he's playing; it does, however, seem like he's a mercenary tasked with taking down Sam Wilson.
Talking to ComicBook.com, The Mandalorian and The Boys star reflected on the rumours and speculation that previously surrounded him.
"The fans really started the Professor X rumor and I loved it.

Marvel’s next Captain America film is getting expensive, and it sounds as if sizeable reshoots are underway – costing up to $100m alone.
While studios tend to be reticent to publicise the actual production budget for their movies, some kind of alchemy still brings together at least a rough number. Take the original Iron Man movie for instance. That’s now believed to have cost in the region of $140m all in, with the price rumoured at the time of its release said to be closer to $100m.
What does seem very clear is that arguably 2025’s biggest Marvel film, Captain America: Brave New World, is going to be a lot, lot more than that. In fact, believe a fresh report that’s popped up over at World Of Reel, and the reshoot costs along for the film are really quite alarming.
None of this has been confirmed, and none of it is our money.

Some fans got to see Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson meeting Harrison Ford’s President Thunderbolt Ross in Captain America 4 at San Diego Comic-Con. However, the reports coming out from the film are not good news for Kevin Feige or Marvel. The film reportedly spent a budget of $350-$375 million. The inflated budget comes after the extensive reshoots that were ordered after the film received terrible scores during test screening.

When Marvel Studios enlisted the Russo Brothers for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, many fans understandably questioned whether the filmmakers behind You, Me and Dupree were the right team for the job.
Well, the 2014 movie remains one of Marvel Studios' best, and Joe and Anthony delivered yet again with Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.
They've since moved on from the MCU to focus on Agbo, a production label they can release their own movies through (with the biggest hit so far being Netflix's Extraction franchise starring Thor actor Chris Hemsworth).
While the Russo Brothers' time in the MCU appears to be over, Captain America: Brave New World Editor Matthew Schmidt recently updated his film credits and Joe and Anthony's names are included.
In a list of producers, we have Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier's Nate Moore...and the Russos!

Captain America: Brave New World reshoots are currently taking place in Atlanta and it appears another major Marvel character has been added to the movie.
Based on a recent Instagram post from paparazzi Atlanta Filming (who has taken hundreds of the shots we've featured here over the years), it appears Benedict Wong will return as the McU's Sorcerer Supreme, Wong.
This might feel like a strange move, but it makes sense on several levels. For starters, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings revealed that Wong, Bruce Banner, and Captain Marvel seem to regularly meet to discuss threats to Earth-616, so why wouldn't he touch base with the new Captain America?
Then, there's the fact Abomination is now training in Kamar-Taj; he was created by The Leader and could have valuable intel about the villain...heck, he may even show up to help Sam Wilson deal with Red Hulk.

Moon Knight villain Bushman remains a likely possibility, though some social media scoopers have said that's not true. However, they also aren't saying who he is playing!

One of the most surprising things about Captain America: Brave New World is the fact Sam Wilson will have to match wits with The Leader.
We first met Samuel Sterns in 2008's The Incredible Hulk and learned Bruce Banner's apparent ally had some questionable beliefs when it came to science. That included creating the Abomination and, when Emil Blonsky went on a rampage in Harlem, Sterns got his own dose of Gamma poisoning after a sample of Banner's blood contaminated a wound on his head.
His head started growing and that was the last we saw of Sterns until a tie-in comic (which may or may not be considered "canon") revealed that Black Widow took him into S.H.I.E.L.D. custody.
