Roshan Mathew is a theatre and film actor working primarily in the Malayalam film industry. He also has some Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi movies to his credit.
Mathew grew up in Kerala in an educated Syro-Malabar Catholic family. He did his schooling in Kottayam; later, he pursued a degree in B.Sc. Physics at Madras Christian College, Chennai. While studying in college, he developed an interest in acting. In this period, he performed in several professional theatricals. He went on to create a theatre group Theatre No. 59, along with his friends when he was in college.
After that, Mathew moved on to the big screen. In 2015 he made a breakthrough and had his screen debut in the web series Tanlines (2015). Not much later, he signed his first film Puthiya Niyamam (2016). But his role in the movie, Aanandam (2016), grabbed eyeballs and gained him recognition.
He went on to appear in several successful movies as a lead actor. Some of his prominent works include - Viswasapoorvam Mansoor (2017), Orayiram Kinakkalal (2018), The Elder One (2019), and Kuruthi (2021). Netflix's Choked (2020) was his first Bollywood movie. He was also cast in Darlings (2022) in 2022, along with renowned actors like Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah. Apart from acting, Mathew has also directed a play in Kochi called, A Very Normal Family.
Mathew has essayed several characters over the span of his career. He has bagged the CPC Cine Award and the SIIMA Awards for his performances in The Elder One (2019) and SIIMA Award for Koode (2018). Apart from this, he has been nominated for his work in movies such as Thottappan (2019), Choked (2020), Kappela (2020) and C U Soon (2020).
