Emmanuel Escobedo
- Actor
Emmanuel Escobedo is a Mexican-American actor, born on August 24th, 1980, in McAllen, Texas, and raised in Reynosa, Mexico. He is the third of four children and is fluent in both English and Spanish.
After a troubled childhood and several run-ins with the law Emmanuel attempted to pursue his passion for the sport of boxing, only to be disillusioned by the corruption within the sport, and so he opted to work other jobs in order to provide for his young family. Eventually he enlisted in the Texas National Guard on September of 2001 after 9/11, and then the United States Army in 2006 upon returning from his first one year tour in Iraq.
Emmanuel is the only member of his family to have served in the United States Military, having served twelve years of total service, four of those years were in the National Guard and eight on active Army. During his time in service, Emmanuel deployed to a total of three combat tours and reached the rank of Sergeant. It is during his second deployment that Emmanuel decided to email People magazine, requesting that the military be honored with a slot on their Sexiest Man Alive issue, and so they happily obliged, placing him on the list of "Sexiest Men Alive" on the year of 2008.
After his second tour, Emmanuel began to show signs of depression, having been separated from his family for quite some time and among other issues. During this emotional period, he became subject to alcohol, leading him to an arrest. Under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, various punitive and administrative actions were attempted, only to be formally disciplined with a Letter of Reprimand. Undeterred, these life changing events clearly conveyed the message, only motivating Emmanuel, and bringing him to making the commitment to change the path of his career and where his life was headed. Rapidly he regained the confidence of his leadership and rededicated himself, establishing good rapport, and eventually representing his Unit at a boxing tournament that involved boxers from various Army installations. With the full support of his Unit, and the record crowd of 1,500, that mainly chanted his name, Emmanuel went on to win the 152 lb Championship. These accomplishments caught the eye of Men's Health magazine, and a three page column was written by Jason Feifer, whom Emmanuel promised, he will someday make the cover of the magazine.
Whether you believe in destiny or not, Men's Health published Emmanuel's story during his preparation of what would be his final deployment, Afghanistan, during the month of September. Incognizant of the impact it would have, Emmanuel went about his routine, returning back home from the National Training Center in California, to spend quality time with his family prior to his deployment. Then the unforeseen, literally within days of flying out, People magazine called once more. Inviting Emmanuel to appear on their 25 Years of Sexy anniversary special, which was hosted by Kim Kardashian, and aired on ABC.
Whether at garrison or on deployment, Emmanuel continued to pursue a degree, accumulating several college credits, majoring in computer networking, before deciding to pursue acting after his Army contract expired. He has done so relentlessly, working on his craft, and always open for improvement, discovering a new passion at the age of 34.
