Bruno de Moraes Viana is an award-winning filmmaker, born and raised in Pelotas, southern Brazil who started his career in film while attending acting school, in Sao Paulo, where after 3 years he realized he did not want to be in front of the camera but rather, behind it.
Inspired by his passion for cinematography along with his academic background in journalism, film and photography, Bruno decided to write, shoot and direct his own low budget films. He always believed it was possible to tell good stories with limited resources supported by creativity. Since then, Bruno has made several short films and started Studio MV11, a small production company with the primary goal of making independent films. Some of his work has been screened in festivals around the globe. These experiences led him to get a scholarship to join the MFA program in Film at Ohio University, where he also taught Film Techniques to undergraduate students.
Bruno has been inspired by directors across genres and time. He listed Charlie Chaplin, Elia Kazan, Federico Fellini, Sidney Lumet, Walter Salles, David Fincher, Cao Hamburger and Robert Rodriguez as some of his biggest influences. He also seeks motivation from different arts such as music, theater and painting.
