Harry Gabriel Mead was born in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire and, from a very early age, developed a huge interest in film and animation at a very early age whilst growing up watching the films of Steven Spielberg and animator Nick Park. Harry would eventually meet his animation hero at a Wallace and Gromit anniversary concert in 2019. Through the encouragement of family, friends and teachers, Harry continuously experimented with animation as a student with the desire to enter the industry.
Following his time as a student at the Royal Grammar School in High Wycombe, Harry obtained a bachelors degree in Animation Production at the Arts University Bournemouth in Dorset in 2019. While Harry had the ambition to become a stop motion animator, he decided to broaden his skill set as an animator and covert from stop motion to 2D. In parallel with this conversion, Harry also continued to explore model- making as he felt wanted to stay in touch with his stop motion routes. As Harry developed as a 2D animator and applied for work, the animation job market was affected by the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 and left Harry unable to find his first job as an animator.
Once again, along with the huge encouragement of his family, Harry decided that his skill set had developed to the point that he was ready to make his first animated short film, The Holiday Maker. The film tells the story of a young woman named Emily who decides to build a miniature model collection of all the destinations she is unable to travel to. The film depicts an amalgamation of 2D animation and miniature model sets, taking inspiration from a number of animation projects at the NFTS in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, where Harry worked as a volunteer. Since its release in 2022, The Holiday Maker has been selected for numerous film festivals and earned 5 international awards in categories for Best Animated Film and Best Cinematography.
