"Hell is on the way." Shudder has released an official trailer for a dark horror, thriller titled Downrange, the latest feature from Japanese genre filmmaker Ryuhei Kitamura. The film is about a group of friends who end up the target of a distant, vicious, hidden sniper after they pop a tire driving cross country. The film's cast includes Kelly Connaire, Stephanie Pearson, Rod Hernandez-Farella, Anthony Kirlew, Alexa Yeames, and Jason Tobias. This is basically a terrifying sniper survival movie on a dusty country road with no one around. The shot of the sniper in this trailer is very slick, and the way it builds is intense. Looks like a helluva scary sniper film. Here's the new official Us trailer (+ posters) for Ryuhei Kitamura's Downrange, direct from YouTube: Six college students are carpooling cross-country when one of their tires blows out on a desolate stretch of country road. *full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by the film's publicity arm. Director: Ryûhei Kitamura. Writers: Ryûhei Kitamura, Joey O'Bryan. Cast: Kelly Connaire, Stephanie Pearson and Rod Hernandez. Japanese director Ryûhei Kitamura is known to this film fan for his work on The Midnight Meat Train (2008) and No One Lives (2012). Both of these earlier horror films are dark, gory spectacles. Kitamura continues his trend, to bring bloody scenarios to the screen, with Downrange. Six college students are trapped along the side of the road as a sniper takes aim at them. They are one bullet away from becoming roadkill. The film's plot is very bare bones; Downrange is more of a scenario, than a typical story. Downrange is also similar to other films, like Joel Schumacher's Phone Booth (2002) and Doug Liman's The Wall (2017). The focus is on the victim and their psychology as the villain remains anonymous.

A car slams on its breaks at the pop of a flat. Inside is Todd (Rod Hernandez) and Sara (Alexa Yeames), a young couple toting around a bunch of strangers who pitched in gas money to reach everyone’s shared destination. Putting on the spare this SUV is thankfully equipped with should only take around twenty minutes—or less thanks to a friendly bet for bragging rights. But that would be too simple. The heat gets to Jodi (Kelly Connaire) and Keren (Stephanie Pearson), Eric (Anthony Kirlew) is going to the bathroom off the road, and Todd and Sara sit to rest. So the hard work is left to Jeff (Jason Tobias), a good-natured gent who doesn’t seem to mind until hearing the clink of a fallen rifle slug.
