Exclusive: Sugar23 has brought in industry vet Sally Ware to serve as a producer and manager on behalf of the company.

Ware joins from Industry Entertainment, where she repped both actors and filmmakers while packaging projects for film and TV. She started her career working for casting director Donna Isaacson on Joel and Ethan Coen’s The Hudsucker Proxy, and then spent three years in the Feature Casting department at 20th Century Fox working on such films as Nicholas Hytner’s The Crucible and Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet. She then moved to New York and joined Gersh, where she spent the next 13 years as an agent in the talent department representing both emerging and well-established talent across film, television, and theatre.

Following the success of “Purple Hearts,” Embankment will launch global pre-sales of new romantic movie, “The Upside of Falling Down,” at the Cannes film market.

The film is directed by Oran Zegman (“Honor Society”) and stars Antonia Gentry from worldwide hit “Ginny & Georgia” alongside Calam Lynch.

The film is written by Rebekah Crane, based on her own acclaimed novel of the same name, and Kelly Walker.

The official synopsis of the film reads thus: “Clementine (Gentry) has lost her memory in an accident and runs away from the hospital with the help of a stranger, Kieran (Lynch) to discover who she is now, before she can reconnect with who she used to be. As she allows herself to free dive into new beginnings, new joys, new loves, and finds the courage to grow into a new version of herself, she begins to fall for this super-cute, charismatic, warm and enigmatic stranger.

Exclusive: We can tell you first that TriStar Pictures has acquired Jim and Brian Kehoe’s original action comedy, Joel in Accounting Must Die, which Entertainment 360 is producing.

This is the duo’s fourth original idea which has sold in the last 18 months.

The Kehoes wrote the hit Universal comedy Blockers, staring John Cena, Leslie Mann, Ike Barinholtz and Kathryn Newton. That Kay Cannon directed comedy debuted at SXSW in 2018 and went on to to open to $20.5M stateside, and final at $60.3M domestic, $94M WW.

The Kehoes’ original pitch Double Fault is in development at Paramount with Rebel Wilson attached to star with Oran Zegman (Honor Society) directing.

They also have two projects in development at Netflix; Unleashed with Dave Bautista attached to star and Jeff Tomsic attached to direct and Luck Key with Marlon Wayans attached to star.

The company has hired Fred D. Lee as VP, Film and Television.

He joins from Nickelodeon and Awesomeness, where he produced live-action features for Paramount+.

Reporting to Rick Jacobs, Managing Partner, Linear Content, Lee will focus on expanding and guiding Skybound’s feature slate of commercial genre fare in the U.S. and international markets.

Projects include Hardcore at Universal with Adam Wingard directing; Stealth at Universal with Lee Daniels directing; and Oblivion Song at New Republic Pictures with Jake Gyllenhaal attached to produce and star.

By taking a quick look at all of the promotional material for Oran Zegman‘s Honor Society, one would be forgiven for thinking it’s a cute and sweet coming-of-age high-school comedy with little else to offer. In all reality, it is all that but it also comes packed with some surprisingly dark and highly emotional material that took me completely off-guard.

Honor Society, a dark comedy about prestige-obsessed high school students, opens with familiar faces of pop feminism: Beyoncé and Billie Eilish. They’re the faces Honor Rose (the Spider-man movies’ Angourie Rice) sees on her wall as she undergoes her lengthy morning routine before senior year – white strips for her teeth, jade roll on her face, straightener on her blonde bob. The montage recalls the opening scene of Booksmart, another sharp film about overachieving teenage girls. But whereas Booksmart’s ambitious protagonists sincerely worshipped Rbg, Michelle Obama and Gloria Steinem with contempt for the less driven, Honor’s posters are proudly utilitarian, her attitude pure disdain. “They’re all bullshit,” she says to us, “but these are the gods of my people, so I must worship them.

A nervy tale of accidental do-gooding, director Oran Zegman’s “Honor Society” is a surprisingly compelling high school caper conceived with youthful wit, aplomb and a genuinely out-of-left-field twist. Written by veteran TV scribe David A. Goodman, its teen protagonist seems a mash-up of Tracy Flick from “Election” and Cher Horowitz from “Clueless.” Possessing the former’s solipsism and the latter’s self-serving resourcefulness, Honor (a bewitching Angourie Rice) spends her days plotting her strategy to become a Harvard student in the next semester.

Honor has carefully forged this plan over the last four years. In her mind, Harvard is the only school that can guarantee her a one-way exit from a dead-end place. Late last week, Variety broke the news that a sequel to the 1989 cult classic Troop Beverly Hills was in the works with Israeli director Oran Zegman. For those not familiar with the original, it’s about a wealthy Beverly Hills mother (Shelley Long) who leads her daughter’s Wilderness Girl troop after her husband leaves her for another woman. The cast is packed with future stars like Jenny Lewis, Tori Spelling, Carla Gugino, and Kellie Martin.

It's cookie time! After over 30 years, a Troop Beverly Hills reboot is officially in the works at TriStar Pictures. The 1989 comedy originally starred Shelley Long as Phyllis Nefler, the den mother with a penchant for shopping who leads a troop of Wilderness Girls. Flash forward three decades, and the movie's modern take will be lead by Oran Zegman, who's making her feature-length directorial debut.

We still have a lot of questions about the upcoming remake, as details continue to unfold. Will the film follow the same plot as the original? Will Long and the now-adult Wilderness Girls star? Or at least make a cameo? We do know Ava Fries - whose real-life experiences served as inspiration for the first movie - will return as executive producer. Sony’s TriStar Pictures is making a sequel to the 1989 comedy “Troop Beverly Hills” that starred Shelley Long, and the studio has set Oran Zegman to make her feature directorial debut on the project.

Aeysha Carr, who is the showrunner on “Woke” and is currently writing Paramount’s “Planes, Trains & Automobiles” remake starring Will Smith and Kevin Hart, wrote the script, and it’s now undergoing a remake by Tamara Chestna (“Moxie”), who will also have a producing role. It’s unclear if any of the original cast will return.

“Troop Beverly Hills” is the story of a pampered Beverly Hills housewife who tried to prove to her daughter that she could rough it as a Wilderness Girls leader and care for a group of girls. Tri-Star has set a sequel to the 1989 Shelley Long feature Troop Beverly Hills with AFI Conservatory grad Oran Zegman making her feature directorial debut.

Oscar nominated Laurence Mark will produce the film off a screenplay by Aeysha Carr with a rewrite by Tamara Chestna, who will also have a producerial role.

The original movie was based on the life events of Ava Fries. Long played a pampered Beverly Hills housewife trying to prove to her daughter that she can rough it as a Wilderness Girls leader. Fries produced the original movie and wrote the story which had a screenplay by Pamela Norris and Margaret Oberman and was directed by Jeff Kanew, produced by Weintraub Entertainment. Fries is returning with Charles W. Fries to executive produce. Nicole Brown and Shary Shirazi will oversee for the studio.

Zegman is an Israeli filmmaker based in Los Angeles.
