Perhaps the biggest change to Vice President Kamala Harris’ wardrobe since she announced her presidential run July 21 is her shoes. Once-omnipresent, her Converse Chuck Taylors have mostly taken a back seat to chic Manolo Blahnik pumps as she strides across an airport tarmac or steps onto a rally stage.
Harris’ Chucks undeniably exude a cool-girl vibe — and the veep’s fans have noticed, as Retail Brew reports that the sneaker brand and style enjoyed a 4,500% increase in online interest between July and early August — but a polished pump is decidedly more presidential. Her devotion to what works for her in a sartorial sense likewise is true of the tailored suits that have long been Harris’ signature, according to L.A.-based designer Sergio Hudson. “As a lawyer and later an attorney general, that was her look,” says Hudson. “It’s crisp, it’s professional, and she’s comfortable in something...

Hillary Clinton has returned to the steps of the Met after 21 years. On May 2, the former Secretary of State attended the 2022 Met Gala over two decades after her last appearance. Clinton, who previously served as a United States senator for the state of New York, last attended Fashion's biggest night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2001, where she wore a classic cut dress with a leopard print. And it seems that the famed politician is set to make another splash all these years later, as she wore a deep red, custom Joseph Altuzarra gown with a very important detail: The names of several influential women from American history embroidered into the neckline and hem. According to Vogue, some of...

Amazon’s fashion design competition “Making the Cut” has enlisted designer Jeremy Scott and “America’s Next Top Model” alum Winnie Harlow as judges for Season 2, the streamer announced Tuesday.

In another change from last season, the new set of episodes were filmed entirely in Los Angeles under Covid-19 safety protocols, rather than showcasing an around-the-world tour of international fashion hubs.
“I am so excited to be in my hometown of Los Angeles with such a talented group of designers and judges for season two,” Klum said in a statement. “This last year brought so many unforeseen challenges across the globe, so I feel grateful that...

It all came down to this. Three designers went into the “Making the Cut” finale episode, “The Winner: The Next Global Brand,” but only one could win the $1 million grand prize and a mentorship from Amazon Fashion. So did Sander Bos, Jonny Cota or Esther Perbandt prevail after the judges made their decisions about their pop-up shops, their business plans and their final collections. Read on for our minute-by-minute recap of what happened and perhaps what should have happened when all was said and done.

In episode three of “Making the Cut,” “Collaboration,” the designers had to work in pairs to create mini collections that blended their aesthetics. At the end of that episode Josh Hupper was eliminated (he actually sort of eliminated himself before the judges even had the chance), and his partner Troy Hul Arnold was on the verge of elimination. So did the judges’ ultimately decide to give him a second chance? And how did the designers do in the next challenge when they had mere hours instead of days to create “Fight for Your Life” looks? Naomi Campbell does not tolerate irreverence for high fashion.
“With couture, there’s a certain respect you have to have,” she says sternly to a nervous designer on the chopping block. “I mean, it goes back centuries. I feel like you disrespected the whole entire word and this assignment because we can all pin a wrap.”
Prior to joining the judging panel of “Making the Cut” — Amazon Studios’ new unscripted fashion design competition series, hosted by Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn — Campbell had thought she was done with reality TV. Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn said, “Auf wiedersehen” to “Project Runway” in 2018 after 16 seasons to create a new Amazon fashion competition series, “Making the Cut,” a decision they said was a long time coming.
During the “Making the Cut” panel at Tuesday’s Television Critics Association winter press tour, the supermodel explained that she, Gunn and executive producer Sara Rea felt their “hands were tied for many, many years” due to the limitations they had at “Project Runway,” such as a tight budget and sponsor obligations that would dictate challenges.
“Our imaginations were bigger than what we were allowed to do. There’s a certain look to a show that you maybe sometimes don’t want to change and didn’t change,” she said. “You can’t have the creative freedom that [you can have] when you don’t have someone who’s like, ‘We’re a water company, so you have to...

After 16 seasons of “Project Runway,” Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn were ready to “jump ship” and try something new that “throws you for a loop.”
The pair’s new fashion series “Making the Cut,” which premieres March 27th on Amazon, is just that. Klum and Gunn talked the differences between “Project Runway” and their new Amazon show “Making the Cut” during a panel at the Amazon Television Critics’ Association press tour day.
Gunn started things off by saying that “Making the Cut” would never have existed without “Project Runway,” before explaining how the new show benefits from more advanced designs and bigger budgets.
“I would say ‘Project Runway’ is the undergraduate program, ‘Making the Cut’ is the graduate and Phd program,” Gunn said.
“We always were a show that never had the biggest budget,” added Klum. “When you have a bigger budget like Amazon, you get to go to Paris...

Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn went from making it work at Project Runway to fusing fashion design and globally-minded ecommerce in Amazon’s forthcoming fashion competition series Making the Cut. The pair, who host and executive produce the series, were joined on the TCA dais by fellow Ep Sara Rea and judges Nicole Richie, designer Joseph Altuzarra and supermodel icon Naomi Campbell, to talk about the new series and how it differs from Klum and Gunn’s previous gig.
“For the first time our audience can shop — it’s a win-win situation,” said Klum about how Making the Cut is different from Project Runway. “It was never possible before.”
In the 10-episode series, which premieres March 27, twelve designers, who were culled from thousands, compete in New York, Paris and Tokyo to bring their brands to a new level.
