Vladek Zankovsky is a film director, cinematographer, and producer, renowned for his unique and personal approach to filmmaking. From an early age, he displayed a strong interest in cinematography, creating his first films with a friend's 8mm camera. Vladek studied at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland.
In 2000, he founded an experimental production studio where he honed his skills in directing, editing, lighting, photography, and screenplay writing. By 2004, the studio became one of the top-rated in Central Asia, working with global companies such as Leo Burnett, Saatchi & Saatchi, Procter & Gamble, and Philip Morris on television commercials and film productions.
Transitioning from advertising to cinema in 2006, Vladek focused on developing original projects. His web series Illuzia.net (2008) and short film Embryo (2009) achieved viral success, amassing millions of views. His feature debut, The Zohar Secret (2016), funded via Kickstarter, was released worldwide. This was followed by Once Upon a Time in Odessa (2016) and the critically acclaimed The Illusion of Control: The Beginning (2017). His latest film, The Illusion of Control (2022), became one of the biggest hits of the year in Ukraine and earned widespread critical acclaim.
