Vladek Zankovsky is a film director, cinematographer, and producer, renowned for his unique and personal approach to filmmaking. From an early age, Vladek displayed a strong interest in cinematography. His first films, shot with a friend's 8mm camera, were never seen by him. He studied at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland.
In 2000, Vladek launched an experimental production studio, Banana Film. He gained professional experience on the job, mastering skills in directing, editing, lighting, photography, and screenplay writing, while simultaneously applying this new knowledge to his work. By 2004, the studio had become one of the top-rated in Central Asia, securing contracts for television commercials and film productions with renowned companies such as Leo Burnett, Saatchi & Saatchi, Procter & Gamble, Philip Morris, and other major brands.
In 2006, Vladek transitioned from advertising to cinema, beginning to develop his own projects. His efforts paid off in 2008 with the success of the web series Illuzia.net (2008) and his short film Embryo (2009), which became a viral web sensation, amassing millions of views.
In July 2010, Vladek began preparations to shoot his first full-length feature film, The Zohar Secret (2016), through the Kickstarter platform. The film was successfully funded and released worldwide in 2016.
In 2016, Vladek released another viral hit, Once Upon a Time in Odessa (2016).
Following the success of The Illusion of Control: The Beginning (2017), Vladek started work on his new feature film The Illusion of Control (2022), which was released in 2022. The film became one of the biggest hits of the year in Ukraine and received widespread critical acclaim.
