Nicole Kidman’s new erotic thriller “Babygirl” not only features holiday scenes, but A24 is releasing the movie on Dec. 25. So does this make the R-rated film a Christmas movie?
“Let’s hope so,” Kidman, who plays a tech company CEO having a kink-filled affair with an intern (Harris Dickinson), told me with a laugh at the film’s premiere Wednesday in Los Angeles. “Somebody thinks it is… A24 is very subversive. They seem to go against the grain always, so maybe [Christmas] is the right time.”
Dickinson weighed in, “It’s absolutely a Christmas movie. I didn’t know it was going to be, but it turned out to be so I’m going with it.”
Halina Reijn, who wrote and directed the movie, said “definitely, as far as I’m concerned.”

The BAFTA Awards — the annual honors bestowed upon the year’s top films and performances by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts — tend to get a lot of attention every year because of where they land on the awards calendar — on the eve of Oscar voting. So ahead, we break down everything you need to know about the BAFTA Awards — who votes, how they vote, and why they matter.
When are the BAFTA Awards?
The 2025 BAFTA Awards take place on Sunday, February 16, 2025, just two days before the final 2025 Oscar winner voting ends. That makes the BAFTA results more important than ever in terms of the Academy Awards – particularly for those Oscar voters who wait until the last minute to cast their ballots and love to back a winner. Last year, the BAFTA Awards matched the eventual Oscar winners in the top categories eight-for-eight.
So does that mean the...

Josh O’Connor has been recruited for Steven Spielberg’s new film, The Dish, as the ensemble continues to grow.
The cast for Steven Spielberg’s next film continues to expand, with the ensemble sounding more impressive with each new name. Although his involvement was rumoured a while back, it has now been confirmed (via Deadline) that Josh O’Connor has joined the cast of the project, which is believed to be titled The Dish.
Ever since news of the project first broke back in April of this year, the buzz surrounding Spielberg’s next film has it pegged as a UFO movie, returning the filmmaker to the backdrop which he reshaped several times with films like E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind and then years later, War of The Worlds.
O’Connor joins an impressive ensemble that already includes Colman Domingo, Emily Blunt, Colin Firth and Eve Hewson.

A Different Man (Aaron Schimberg)
There are a lot of ways A Different Man could go and a lot of things it could be. Aaron Schimberg’s uniquely uncomfortable, uncomfortably unique feature sometimes plays as a reverse-Frankenstein medical horror, a tragic life-imitates-art satire, and a spiraling relationship drama. To its ambitious and distinct credit, it attempts packaging them all into ominous-sounding harmony, as if Charlie Kauffman’s surrealist Escher concoctions became a Twilight Zone episode modeled after David Lynch’s Elephant Man or Beauty and the Beast. It’s a dark, hilarious, and deeply unsettling portrait of a disfigured man that’s also an unflinching mirror of a looks-focused industry. – Jake K. (full review)

Producers and distributors heading to Las Vegas for this year’s American Film Market, which runs Nov. 5-10, are betting big that indie action is primed for a comeback.
The AFM was built on action movies — the leading independent film bazaar launched in 1981 at the start of a decade defined by the cinematic stylings of Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Steven Segal, Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme. But in recent markets, with the headline-grabbing success of breakouts like Neon’s Longlegs and Cineverse’s Terrifier 3, action has taken a backseat to horror.
There will be scares-a-plenty at AFM 2024, but many of the market’s buzziest projects sit squarely in the action space. Even a few that don’t star Liam Neeson, Gerard Butler, Jason Statham or Nic Cage. How buyers respond to this new generation of would-be action stars — Daisy Ridley, Amber Midthunder, Alan Ritchson — will determine who...

Some casting news spread over the past 24 hours, Alana Haim is continuing her progression in cinema and working with choice auteurs climbing aboard the latest by Kelly Reichardt (The Mastermind) and Kristoffer Borgli (The Drama). It’s not that far-fetched to think that she’ll shore up in three major titles in 2025 – namely the new Paul Thomas Anderson film. She joined Josh O’Connor for the set in the 70s portrait by Reichardt, and for Borgli project, she joins Zendaya, Robert Pattinson and the just announced Mamoudou Athie. When it was originally announced that Alana Haim would star in Paul Thomas Anderson’s most recent film, “Licorice Pizza,” folks were a bit skeptical of her acting chops considering she’s best known as a musician in the band Haim. Licorice Pizza director Paul Thomas Anderson’s next film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, reportedly has a title: The Battle Of Baktan Cross.
A miasma of secrecy has long surrounded Boogie Nights and Licorice Pizza director Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film, which was shot under the production title BC Project.
According to reporter Jeff Sneider (via World of Reel), however, its title has emerged: The Battle Of Baktan Cross. That certainly lines up with set photographs that have dribbled out of the production, several of which show a police car with the words “City of Baktan Cross” emblazoned on the side.
We haven’t seen so much as a logline emerge from the production to date, though again, set photographs give us a few clues here: it appears to be some sort of heist thriller, with stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Teyana Taylor both pictured wielding guns. In one image, DiCaprio’s...

In a lengthy personal essay, Margo Price wrote about her decision to get septoplasty and rhinoplasty, and the depression she felt before and after the operation this past March. “I didn’t recognize the person staring back at me,” she wrote in the Substack missive, “As Plain as the Nose on My Face.” “I was bruised and battered, like I had just been in the boxing match of a lifetime and my face was swollen and covered with bandages. Taylor Swift is making waves and breaking records with “The Eras Tour” in 2024, and Swifties are dying to know what the superstar is up to for Independence Day. In the past, Swift threw a July 4th bash with her friends every year. However, Swift will have to skip the party in 2024. Here’s why her Fourth of July plans look a lot different this year than they did in the past.
Taylor Swift isn’t throwing her signature July 4th party because of ‘The Eras Tour’
Taylor Swift is known for her Fourth of July parties. She started throwing the holiday parties at her $17 million Rhode Island home in 2013, and the pop superstar became known for the ragers. In 2023, she posted photos of her Fourth of July bash with Selena Gomez and Haim sisters Alana Haim, Danielle Haim, and Esté Haim.

After a relatively public first wave of production for Paul Thomas Anderson’s next feature across California, things have recently been kicking back up after a few quiet months. Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn were recently spotted in the northeast of San Diego at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, in scenes featuring high-speed cars, crashes, and gunplay as PTA is clearly making the most of his $115 million budget and IMAX release. Now, we have a new addition to the ensemble.
Benicio del Toro, who gave one of the best performances of his career as Sauncho Smilax, Esq. in PTA’s last Thomas Pynchon adaptation, Inherent Vice, will reteam with the director. The news was buried deep in a THR article about Hollywood layers noting under Steve Warren: “Clients Benicio del Toro and Leonardo DiCaprio will co-star in Paul Thomas Anderson’s next film — after del Toro finishes work on Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme.

Most of Wild Wild West plays exactly in the way you would expect, as a uglier, less charismatic version of Men in Black. Sure, Will Smith still has his ineffable cool and Kevin Kline’s always lovable, even when playing a motor-mouthed and egotistical inventor. But the two just don’t click like Smith did with Tommy Lee Jones, and Barry Sonnenfeld’s direction feels forced and mechanical instead of electric. So when Smith’s secret agent Jim West and Kline’s U.S. Marshal Artemus Gordon find the secret lab of mad scientist Arliss Loveless (Kenneth Branagh), the audience feels just as unimpressed as the characters. As the exhausted duo mocks Loveless’s offerings, they ask “What has he got?” listing off his failures. The same question could be posed to Wild Wild West, with its garish set-pieces and flat humor.

File this evergreen headline under “no alarms and no surprises.” After working together on There Will Be Blood, The Master, Inherent Vice, Junun, Phantom Thread, and Licorice Pizza, Jonny Greenwood has confirmed he’s already started to work on the score for the next feature from Paul Thomas Anderson.
“I’m incredibly lucky that Paul indulges me and gives me so much time to experiment and compose,” Greenwood tells The Guardian. “That’s not usually the case in Hollywood, where the soundtrack writers are often very far down the food chain, and are sometimes given only a couple of days to bash out a complete score.”
This will mark the first time a Greenwood score will be heard in IMAX theaters as PTA’s currently untitled film has been set for an August 8, 2025 wide release from WB. With a cast of Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris,...

According to Zack Snyder, one of the most significant Dceu storylines seems to have originated from none other than Oscar-winning star Leonardo DiCaprio. The 49-year-old actor was once considered for the role of Lex Luthor, Superman’s greatest enemy. In an exclusive interview with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the director disclosed that he had a meeting with the Titanic star to discuss the role in his 2016 superhero flick, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
However, Jesse Eisenberg ultimately won the role. Snyder also recalled that DiCaprio came up with the plan to pit Henry Cavill’s Superman against the Justice League. Sadly, the Dceu timeline came to an end in 2023 (Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom), capping ten years of superhero films that started with Snyder’s Man of Steel (2013).

Across his nine features thus far, Paul Thomas Anderson has never had a prime summer release, but that is about to change when it comes to his currently untitled, maybe Vineland tenth feature. With production still underway across California with the cast of Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, Alana Haim, and Chase Infiniti, Warner Bros. has now set an August 8, 2025 wide release, including an IMAX run, for what they describe as an “event film.”
It’s not the first time the director’s work has been seen on an IMAX screen as his Thom Yorke collaboration Anima received a limited run in the format. Though no IMAX cameras have been spotted on set thus far, VistaVision cameras have been seen shooting in 35mm, which should look gorgeous if 70mm prints are made. The next Paul Thomas Anderson movie has a release date.
While announcing several calendar placements for its upcoming theatrical slate, Warner Bros. revealed on Tuesday that Anderson’s untitled project starring Leonardo DiCaprio will arrive in theaters (including IMAX venues) on August 8, 2025.
Little is officially known about Anderson’s new movie, other than its cast: DiCaprio, Sean Penn, “Licorice Pizza” breakout Alana Haim, “A Thousand and One” star Teyana Taylor, and Regina Hall. Unofficially, however, the film has a reported budget north of $115 million, according to Variety. There has also been broad and unconfirmed speculation that the untitled feature is at least partially inspired or based on Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel “Vineland.” That book was set in the mid-1980s, although it’s unclear if Anderson’s potential take on the material would follow its same timeline. (Anderson previously adapted Pynchon’s “Inherent Vice” for the big screen.)

Warner Bros. has dated the untitled PTA movie for a release on August 8, 2025. The movie officially stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, Alana Haim, and Chase Infiniti.
Anderson is writing, directing, and producing the film, now his 10th narrative feature, with Sara Murphy and Adam Somner also producing.
Warner Bros. is calling PTA’s next movie an “event film,” and its release plans on IMAX are a coup for the director and the studio. Little else is known about it, as Anderson loves working in secrecy, but the film is said to be contemporary in its setting, and it’s felt to be his most “commercial” project to date. The film is currently in production in California.

Robert Pattinson is delaying his return to Gotham.
The gritty comic book sequel “The Batman Part II,” in which the actor will play the Caped Crusader again, has been postponed a year. It will debut in theaters on Oct. 2, 2026 instead of its original date of Oct. 3, 2025.
In addition to the move, Warner Bros., the studio behind the superhero tentpole, has shuffled around other titles on its release calendar. Maggie Gyllenhaal’s “The Bride,” starring Christian Bale, Jessie Buckley and Peter Sarsgaard, will take “The Batman” sequel’s old spot on Oct. 3, 2025. And “Alto Knights,” a mob drama starring two Robert De Niros, has relocated from Nov. 15, 2024 to March 21, 2025.
The studio also added the latest film from director Paul Thomas Anderson to its schedule, slating it for Aug. 8, 2025. The movie, labeled by Warner Bros. as “An Untitled Paul Thomas Anderson Event Film,” will be released in Imax. Little is known about the project,...

The Batman Part II is flying off to a new date. The film will now open Oct. 2, 2026. That’s back a full year from its previous date.
Batman 2 wasn’t the only notable change made to Warner Bros. release calendar on Tuesday: The Maggie Gyllenhaal-directed The Bride!, starring Christian Bale, will take Batman 2‘s old date of Oct. 3, 2025; Barry Levinson’s gangster pic Alto Nights is being delayed from Nov. 24, 2024, to March 21, 2025; and Paul Thomas Anderson’s untitled, star-studded event pic has landed an Aug. 8, 2025, release date. All of the titles will be offered in Imax.
The sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman was first announced at CinemaCon in April 2022. In August of that year, Mattson Tomlin boarded to co-write with Reeves, and in late January 2023, DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran gave the film a title and date of Oct. 3, 2025. Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2 is no longer opening on October 3, 2025 — a new launchpad for comic book movies. Instead, it is going a year later on October, 2, 2026. We hear the new date is due to the aftermath of the dual strikes.
The spacing also will give some distance from James Gunn’s Superman, which is hitting cinemas on July 11, 2025. That film will kick off Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Studios, the first phase titled “Gods and Monsters.”
Reeves’ Batman is not part of the Gunn universe, but it’s all kosher to co-exist. Gunn has another Batman movie in the works, Batman: Brave and the Bold, with Andy Muschietti directing. Robert Pattinson plays Batman in Reeves’ universe. The role will be recast for Muschietti’s film.
The Batman, which opened two years ago, grossed more than $772M at the global box office. The reboot also was a big...
