Lucas Bravo is questioning how much freedom he has on “Emily in Paris” – and whether or not he wants to return to the hit Netflix series for its fifth season.
Bravo told IndieWire while promoting Mélanie Laurent’s true crime film “Freedom” that while he is indebted to “Emily in Paris” for marking his breakout role as chef Gabriel, he thinks his character has been “slowly turned into guacamole.”
And the food parallels don’t stop there: According to Bravo, the Lily Collins-led show has become rife with narrative “souffles,” or a “lack of risk” with the character arcs. In turn, Bravo doesn’t recognize both the show and the character he first signed up to play.
“The ‘sexy chef’ was very much part of me in Season 1 and we grew apart season after season because of the choices he makes and because of the direction they make him take.

Just hours ahead of his long-anticipated trial for sexual assault charges on Monday (October 28), Gerard Depardieu’s lawyer said the French actor would not attend due to health concerns and requested a delay in the proceedings.

In 1892, French soldiers looted a number of totems and treasures from the West African kingdom of Dahomey, considering these items the spoils of victory after winning the Second Franco-Dahomean War. For over a century, the items sat in French museums, watched over by French security guards and viewed primarily by French citizens. In November of 2021, President Emmanuel Macron okayed the return of 26 artifacts to the nation, now known as Benin. The country was “generously” given back a small part of their stolen history. It was viewed as a victory for the former colony,...

The BBC has axed investigative journalism show HARDtalk after nearly 30 years as part of a 130-person layoff program in its news division.
The news has emerged as part of the wider 500-person-layoff program that was announced earlier this year by Director General Tim Davie, as the corporation grapples with a deficit of £500M ($654M) amid tricky economic headwinds. Davie delivered a speech yesterday in which he urged more government funding for global news, as he warned that Russia and China are filling gaps vacated by the World Service with “unchallenged propaganda.”
The closure of HARDtalk, which will happen in five months, is part of the latest round of cuts to the hard-hit BBC News teams, which news boss Deborah Turness said today will “help meet the BBC’s savings and reinvestment challenge” in an internal email sent out in the past hour. An all-staff meeting led by Turness is currently taking place.

French President Emmanuel Macron said he would fight to make sure Netflix’s hit series Emily in Paris returns to France after the season ended with Emily in Rome.
“We will fight hard. And we will ask them to remain in Paris! Emily in Paris in Rome doesn’t make sense,” Macron said in an interview published on Wednesday.
In the fourth season of the series, Emily, played by actress Lily Collins, left behind the City of Lights for the Eternal City.

Oscar-winning actor and filmmaker Jodie Foster is set to star in a French movie, “Vie Privée,” the next directorial effort of Rebecca Zlotowski.
Currently filming in France, “Vie Privée” will mark Zlotowski’s follow up to “Other People’s Children,” which competed at the Venice Film Festival in 2022.
The movie is penned by Zlotowski, Anne Berest, a well-known French novelist (“The Postcard”) and screenwriter (“Happening”), alongside Gaëlle Macé. Zlotowski and Macé previously collaborated on the script of “Grand Central.” Zlotowski’s regular producer, Frederic Jouve at Paris-based Velvet Films is producing.
Foster, who was last seen in “True Detective: Night Country,” picks her roles very selectively. Her pairing with Zlotowski seems like an ideal match as they share a similar sensibility and are both interested in dramas portraying multi-faceted characters, many of which are female protagonists.
Besides “Other People’s Children,” Zlotowski is best known for directing “Une fille facile,” “Grand Central” with Lea Seydoux,...

Donald Trump is a man of many talents but not the best sport when it comes to taking criticism. The most famous of which would surely be his public disdain for pop icon Taylor Swift. When she publicly tried to endorse Kamala Harris in the ongoing presidential elections. This was something that didn’t sit well with Trump, and in his usual unapologetic demeanor, he tweeted some serious words against the artist.

While Trump might have criticized Swift for her opinions, French President Emmanuel Macron had nothing but kind words for the artist. And that she has played a huge role in lifting several economies.

The French film sector will be spared from an incoming round of public cuts, with the country’s National Film Board (Cnc) and its tax rebate kept in place at current levels of funding.
Under the new budget submitted by Prime Minister Michel Barnier, the film board will continue to draw from diverse revenue streams lifted from taxes on theatrical admissions alongside linear broadcasters, streaming services and telecom providers, all of which are re-injected into the film sector. Under the Barnier plan, the Cnc will instead pay a one-time levy of €450 million, taken from Cnc savings and thus unlikely to affect ongoing operations.
The levy arrives as part of the incoming prime minister’s wider, austerity budget designed to slash €60 billion ($65.5 billion) in annual expenditures. Now submitted, the overall budget is likely to evolve once put before France’s National Assembly and Senate, ahead of a final promulgation in December.

After back-to-back seasons of love triangles, miscommunications, and outright deception, Emily in Paris finally has a promising plot to move forward with. It turns out that Lily Collins’ title character in “Emily in Paris” may have just caused an international incident.
The Mayor of Rome has weighed in on the location switch for Season 5 of the hit Netflix series. The Season 4 finale saw Emily (Lily Collins) relocating to Rome; French President Emmanuel Macron later issued a statement vowing to bring the production back to France for its sixth season.
“Doesn’t President Macron have more pressing matters to worry about?” Roman Mayor Roberto Gualtieri told The Hollywood Reporter Roma. “I would like to believe, at least I would like to hope, that Macron was joking, because he ought to know that a production company like Netflix does not take orders from heads of state or make decisions based on political pressure.”
Gualtieri added, “You really cannot intimidate or interfere with Netflix production plans for the next season of ‘Emily in Paris.’ It is just not done.

The Mayor of Rome has a message for President Emmanuel Macron of France: “You really cannot intimidate or interfere with Netflix production plans for the next season of Emily in Paris. It is just not done,” Roberto Gualtieri tells The Hollywood Reporter Roma.
Gualtieri, a man who says he loves Paris and is great friends with Anne Hidalgo, the Mayor of Paris, was more than a trifle miffed on Wednesday morning when President Macron announced to Variety that he planned to “fight hard” to keep the popular Emily from migrating permanently from the City of Lights to The Eternal City.
Netflix has already made clear that Emily will be enjoying a Roman holiday of sorts in the fifth season, but the Gallic pride of Macron appears to have been mortally wounded.

Nearly 50 heads of governments from different continents, including Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Cambodia’s King Norodim Sihamoni and Georgia’s President Salomé Zourabichvili, joined France’s President Emmanuel Macron at the Francophonie Summit, a two-day event celebrating French-speaking cultures.
The event, which took place Oct. 4-5 at the Cité Internationale in the Villers-Cotterêts and at the Grand Palais in Paris, saw world leaders and heads of international organizations such as Unesco discuss the importance of having a unified voice when tackling issues revolving around cultural, diplomatic and tech challenges, including AI.
The summit was hosted by Macron, alongside by the head of the International Organization of Francophonie, Louise Mushikiwabo. French actor and filmmaker Guillaume Gallienne from the Comedie Francaise turned up in Villers-Cotterêts to read iconic French texts while Lebanese actor and singer Hiba Tawaji performed “Li Beyrouth,” accompanied by the Republican Guard, in a moving tribute to war-torn Lebanon.

French President Emmanuel Macron isn’t ready to bid au revoir to “Emily in Paris.”
While Emily (Lily Collins) has relocated to Rome in the Season 4 finale of the hit Netflix series, Macron is vowing to bring the production back to France.
“We will fight hard. And we will ask them to remain in Paris!” Macron told Variety. “‘Emily in Paris’ in Rome doesn‘t make sense.”
“Emily in Paris” is confirmed to be moving to Italy for its fifth season as Emily will lead the marketing campaign for new client-slash-suitor Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini). And while it’s still unclear where the series could go next both narratively and in terms of jet-setting, it seems that Macron may have an advantage to bringing Emily once more to Paris: Macron’s wife Brigitte Macron guest-starred on the show.
“I was super proud, and she was very happy to do it,” Macron said of the cameo.

European Commissioner Thierry Breton, who pursued Elon Musk over content regulation on social media site platform X, has resigned from his role, accusing European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen of acting against him.
Breton was the European commissioner for the internal market for five years from December 2019, in a role that gave him oversight of the smooth and fair running of the European single market, both physical and digital.
In the latter part of this term, he had been at the forefront of enacting Europe’s Digital Services Act (Dsa), which was introduced in 2022 with the aim of creating a level playing field in Europe’s digital market in the face of big tech giants, as well as to moderate illegal content and disinformation.

France’s First Lady Brigitte Macron has been awarded $8,800 in damages after two French women made false claims that she was transgender.

Investigators from the National Anti-Fraud Office, which is attached to the French customs department, told him he would be placed in police custody.
France’s Ofmin, an agency tasked with preventing violence against minors, issued an arrest warrant for Durov as the coordinating agency in a preliminary investigation into offenses including fraud, drug trafficking, cyberbullying, organized crime and promoting terrorism.

The Paris Prosecutor’s Office has requested that actor Gérard Depardieu stand trial in a criminal court in relation to rape allegations by actress Charlotte Arnould, French media reported on Thursday.
The investigating judge must now make a decision on whether to endorse the request or not.
Arnould’s lawyer Carine Durrieu-Diebolt told French news network Bfmtv that the trial request marked a major breakthrough in the case for her client.
“For Charlotte Arnould, it’s an enormous step forward in the direction of a trial. She is now impatiently waiting for the end of the investigation,” she said.
Depardieu is already facing trial this October on separate charges of sexual assault against two women on the set of the film The Green Shutters in 2021.

There seems to be something for everyone at this summer’s Olympic Games — there’s Simone Biles and Snoop Dogg, a pommel horse king and a rugby queen. Even Olympic veterans are saying this year feels different.

Leon Marchand, the 22 year-old swimming champion who made Team France proud with four gold medals and one silver at the Paris Olympics, ranks as one of the games’ biggest breakout athletes.
After wrapping up his last competition on Monday, Marchand, who is originally from Toulouse, in Southern France, and travelled to Paris with his parents and brother, embarked on a wall-to-wall media tour marathon but reportedly snubbed one of the Olympics’ most popular talk shows, “Quels Jeux,” which is hosted by prominent journalist Lea Salamé and airs on broadcaster France Televisions.
According to Le Parisien newspaper, it is because Salamé’s show “doesn’t fit his values,” although they didn’t expand on why that might be.
Still, the snub has been the talk of France’s Olympics-mad media. “Quels Jeux” has been criticized for being too celebrity-heavy at the expense of the actual sports, simply offering a platform for self-promotion.

Updated: Thomas Jolly, the artistic director of the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics, has filed a second complaint on Aug. 3, along with two organizers of the event, Alexandre Billard and Thierry Reboul, alleging death threats, swiftly prompting the crime unit (Brdp) to launch a new investigation, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office.
According to national newspaper Le Parisien, some of the death threats cited verses of the Quran, saying that the “Allah’s punishment will fall down on the organizers in Saint Denis.” The closing ceremony will take place at the Stade de France, located in Saint Denis, on the outskirts of Paris. Billard is the joint managing director of the event planner agency Ubi Bene, while Reboul is the executive director of the Olympic ceremonies.
Jolly previously filed a complaint on July 30, the same day that the DJ of the ceremony, known as Barbara Butch, also filed a complaint for cyber harassment.

French celebrity drag queen and tv presenter Nicky Doll is suing Laurence Fox for defamation over pedophile comments he made about drag artists appearing in the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
The action comes just three months after UK actor Fox, who is now better known as a controversial political activist and TV presenter, was ordered to pay £180,000 in damages to former RuPaul’s Drag Race UK contestant Crystal (Colin Seymour) and charity trustee Simon Blake, after he called them “pedophiles” on social media.
Nicky Doll, whose birth name is Karl Sanchez, was among a group of drag artists appearing in a scene entitled ‘Festivity’, celebrating inclusion and diversity. It was among 12 tableaux celebrating the French spirit woven into the Olympics opening ceremony on July 26.
Fox responded to the tableau with a clip and caption which read: “No point in getting wound up when the child f**kers want to wind you up.

Emmanuel Macron is praising the 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony amid the attacks and death threats organizers received.
A portion of the opening ceremony featuring drag queens came under fire after it was believed to be mocking Leonardo Da Vinci’s “The Last Supper.” Religious groups and high-profile conservative voices like Fuller House star Candace Cameron Bure called the interpretation “disgusting.”
However, the opening ceremony recreated the feast of the Gods, and Macron recently praised the organizers’ “audacity”.
“I am scandalized and sad about what he’s been through,” Macron told reporters, according to Reuters. “The French and the whole world were very proud of this opening ceremony, it made us very proud. His audacity did a lot of good to a lot of people.”
Macron continued, “It showed France’s audacity, and it all happened with the suitable artistic freedom. Nothing justifies threats to an artist.”

In a striking display of cultural diversity at the Paris Olympics, Egyptian beach volleyball players Marwa Abdelhady and Doaa Elghobashy competed in full-body uniforms and hijabs, contrasting sharply with their bikini-clad Spanish opponents.
The match, which Spain won 2-0, highlighted the ongoing debate over athletic wear and religious expression in sports. Photos of the two teams embracing after the game quickly went viral, highlighting the noticeable differences in their outfits.
The Egyptian duo’s appearance comes amid controversy surrounding France’s decision to prohibit its own athletes from wearing hijabs during the Games. French Sports Minister Amelie Oudea-Castera defended the ban, citing the country’s principle of secularism.

Good news for NBCUniversal: The Paris Olympics are off to a great start with a big win out of Friday’s Opening Ceremony.
Nearly 29 million tuned in for the extravaganza, according to Nielsen and Adobe Analytics.
That’s a more than 60% leap up from the pandemic-delayed 2021 Tokyo Olympics, which netted a mere 17 million viewers across NBC platforms three years ago as it took place in empty stadiums.
In fact, in data melding the live midday Opening Ceremony coverage and the slightly more streamlined special primetime presentation, the Total Audience Delivery of 28.6 million viewers on NBC and Peacock also saw an 8% increase over the 2016 Rio Opening Ceremony.
The 2024 Opening Ceremony also snagged another 666,000 viewers from Telemundo Deportes, NBCU says.
