TV shows exploring parallel universes offer unique perspectives and refreshing takes on established worlds. The best sci-fi shows effectively balance multiple timelines, creating complex and intriguing storylines. Some parallel universes introduced in TV shows, like the Phoenix Academy and Pillow World, leave viewers wanting more exploration.
One thing I always appreciated about TV shows was when the story jumped into a parallel universe, but there were some that I wish wed seen more of. Some of the best TV shows of all time have delved into the concept of their respective universes being different from normal, which was often a refreshing and new take on an already established fictional world. However, the best sci-fi TV shows ever executed this premise the best overall.

Warning: major spoilers for The Umbrella Academy season 4.
Ben's original death in The Umbrella Academy was a mystery to the cast until season 4, surprising even Justin H. Min. The reveal of how Ben died came as a shock to Min, who had never known the truth until shortly before filming began. Despite fan assumptions, the cast also discovers the plot twists and turns as the seasons progress, just like the fans do.
Ben's original death in The Umbrella Academy was even a mystery to the cast. First introduced as a ghost following Robert Sheehan's Klaus, Justin H. Min's Ben rarely had the opportunity to live as an autonomous adult. After he was introduced in another timeline, Min played another version of Ben, who suffered a similar fate in The Umbrella Academy's season 4 ending. His horrifying death led to the reveal of how the original Ben died, and even Min was surprised.

Note: There are spoilers for “The Umbrella Academy” Season 4 below.
“The Umbrella Academy” just signed off with its fourth and final season, and the Netflix series brought it all to an end with a happy reunion — of sorts. The series ends with a singular, happier timeline created thanks to the Hargreeves siblings’ sacrifice – and it’s full of familiar faces.
After the siblings realize that the marigold giving them their powers is also what’s causing the world to end repeatedly, they agree to let The Cleanse erase them from ever existing. This results in one unified, seemingly much better timeline.
The show ends with a pan around a park where we see a number of familiar faces from the series’ run; all living much better, safer lives. Showrunner Steve Blackman told TheWrap it was a lot of phone calls, but he ended up getting almost everyone he wanted for the scene.

A group of strangers wake up somewhere with no idea of where they are, how they got there, or why they’re there. Sound familiar? That’s the starting point of Escape the Field, a new thriller from first-time feature director Emerson Moore and his co-writers Sean Wathen and Joshua Dobkin.
Sam wakes up, still in her scrubs, in a cornfield with a revolver and one bullet beside her. While she’s trying to figure out how she got there, or where “there” is, Tyler stumbles across her. Six strangers wake up in a cornfield with no idea how they got there. Each has been supplied with a single item, marked with a distinctive symbol. They have no food or water, and something is hunting them. It’s one of those high concept scenarios which filmmakers pull out when they can’t be bothered with preamble and want to get straight into the action. The format is very hit and miss, but here, if one overlooks the unlikeliness of the set-up (for which we never are given a truly satisfactory explanation), there’s a lot to enjoy. Director/co-writer Emerson Moore has crafted a superior example of its type thanks to decent character work, puzzles which actually present a challenge, and a capable lead.

Netflix has released first look images for “The Umbrella Academy” Season 3, offering a glimpse at the new timeline (and fight for the future) awaiting the oddball heroes in the new season.
After shutting down a 1963 apocalypse in Season 2, the Hargreeves, aka the Umbrella Academy, return home to the present day for a quick breather and short-lived relief over saving the timeline. But it doesn’t take long to realize they’ve changed the timeline more than they expected, and along with the realization that things are not completely Ok, comes the Sparrow Academy: a chilly, clever and fashionable group that clashes with the Umbrellas as soon as they enter the story. An unknown violent force causes damage (possibly thanks to them), bringing the Umbrellas to enlist Dad’s new family to help them correct something they may have caused while trying to fix the Universe’s timeline.

"There is no way out." Lionsgate has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror film titled Escape the Field, marking the feature debut of writer / director Emerson Moore. It's arriving to watch in early May for those curious to find out what's going on. The fear is inescapable in this horror-thriller about six strangers who suddenly awaken in a remote, endless cornfield. Stripped of their possessions, they are left with only six items: a gun with a single bullet, matches, a lantern, a knife, a compass, a flask of water. Escape the Field is the second major "stuck in an endless field" movie, following Vincenzo Natali's In the Tall Grass in 2019. This one looks like it has a few more twists, and seems a bit more like Cube or Saw or an Escape Room than Natali's supernatural thriller. Starring Jordan Claire Robbins, Theo Rossi, Tahirah Sharif, Julian Feder,...

It seems Elliot Page is taking full advantage of the phrase "sky's out, thighs out." On Monday, the 34-year-old actor proudly posted a shirtless photo to Instagram with the caption, "Trans bb's first swim trunks #transjoy #transisbeautiful." Not only does the picture feature Elliot's first swim trunks, it's also the first shirtless photo the actor has featured on his Instagram since undergoing top surgery earlier this year. We weren't the only ones to notice Elliot's joyful display - his The Umbrella Academy family also got in on the fun, with Justin H. Min commenting "okkk summer ready," Emmy Raver-Lampman adding "Omg! The Umbrella Academy executive producer and DC comics writer Jeff King shares his unique perspective on the Netflix adaptation.
The Umbrella Academy is not your average comic book adaptation. Instead of focusing on superheroes in their heyday, the series takes a look at an adopted family bred to be a superteam who instead became fractured and lost in their adulthood. Executive producer Jeff King, who is known for his work with DC’s Convergence miniseries and who has produced for shows like White Collar, Continuum, and Blindspot, sees the Netflix series as a chance for viewers to connect with the characters as they look back on a troubled life before conquering an unknown future… or lack thereof.
King knows how difficult it is to bring a comic successfully off the page and onto the screen, but his background with DC Comics gives him an edge. “Having a...

It was when half the Doom Patrol traveled through a flatulent donkey to another dimension that I realized a line had been crossed. Probably in a good way.
We’re nearly seven years into the modern TV superhero-drama boom, which began with the CW’s Arrow. In those early days, when Oliver Queen was running around without a mask and only being called “the vigilante,” there was a sense that the people adapting comic books for the small screen felt they had to hold viewers’ hands through the whole concept.

Netflix's The Umbrella Academy is an admirable attempt to bring the comic to the small screen that ultimately misses the mark.
Books
This Umbrella Academy review does not contain spoilers.
Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba's The Umbrella Academy, which opens with the spontaneous birth of 43 superpowered babies right at the moment a wrestler elbow drops a giant space squid in the ring, might be unadaptable. Despite its best efforts to capture the delightful weirdness of the comic as well as expand on some of the storylines only hinted at in the book, the new Netflix series is ultimately too grounded and sluggish to really keep us invested. The series never quite finds its rhythm until the very end and is surprisingly dull throughout, especially in the first few exposition-heavy episodes.
