For comedy fans of a certain age, watching VHS copies of the 1982 concert film “Richard Pryor: Live on the Sunset Strip” until the tape fell off of the spools was a rite of passage. Until Eddie Murphy‘s “Raw” dethroned it later in the 1980s, it was the most successful stand-up special of all time, and understandably so; marking Pryor‘s return to the stage after the freebasing accident that almost killed him, it was not only hilarious but revealing and poignant — the passage toward the end of the film in which Pryor personifies his crack pipe and acts out his own struggles with it is one of the most potent depictions of addiction ever put on screen.

The problem is that those VHS copies, as well as the blurry transfers on cable television where “Sunset Strip” was a staple for years, captured the greatness of Pryor’s performance but...

Walter C. Miller, an award-winning television director and producer who served as an executive producer, producer and consulting producer for the CMA Awards for more than 40 years, died Friday night in Nashville. He was 94 years old.

“Walter was an absolute television legend,” said Sarah Trahern, CMA Chief Executive Officer. “When you worked with him, you instantly knew you were in the presence of greatness. He brought so much innovation and brilliance to the CMA Awards over the 40 years he worked with the organization.”

Don't expect season two of BBC America's Thirteen  TV show. The drama thriller, which premiered in the Us on June 23rd will come to a close after its first season and TV series finale episode, airing in July. In UK, the finale aired back in March. At that time, creator Marnie Dickens told Radio Times that Thirteen was conceived as a mini-series which tells a complete story. So while Thirteen has not been cancelled in the traditional sense, it will not be renewed for a second season.

This five-party mystery thriller follows Ivy Moxham (Jodie Comer) on the day she escapes the cellar where she has been held prisoner for the last 13 years -- half her life. BBC America has announced its new Thirteen TV series premieres Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 10:00pm Et/Pt. The five-part series kicks off the week after Orphan Black's fourth season finale. Thirteen is written by creator Marnie Dickens and directed by China Moo-Young and Vanessa Casill, with Elizabeth Kilgarriff executive producing.

Maori myth is at the heart of Tatau, BBC America’s curiously trippy new drama about two British tourists who become embroiled in a maze of hallucinatory visions, murder plots and local secrets while vacationing in the Cook Islands. It’s an intriguing and unusual subject for the channel to tackle, and the resultant oddness of the show as a whole is what immediately sets it apart from the network’s previous supernatural dramas In the Flesh and Being Human (though Tatau, with its photogenic cast and fast-paced plot, is certainly geared toward the same teenage demographic).

Whether the show’s peculiarity will make it something truly worth watching down the road, though, is a question unanswered after the uneven first two episodes. The pilot is really an extended intro for leads Kyle (Joe Layton) and Budgie (Theo Barklem-Biggs), twentysomething...

Longmire: TCM, 8pm

The third season of the Us crime drama starring Robert Taylor, Katee Sackhoff and Lou Diamond Phillips begins tonight.

Sheriff Walt Longmire (Taylor) deals with the repercussions from Henry's (Phillips) arrest and Branch's (Bailey Chase) shooting. However, complications arise when Branch reveals the identity of his assailant.

Poldark: BBC One, 9pm

The period drama starring Aidan Turner as the titular hero continues.

Jim's (Alexander Arnold) health is at risk when a fever breaks out in the jail. Meanwhile Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson) is thrilled to attend a grand ball hosted by George. Unfortunately, the scorned banker has other plans for Poldark and his newly-founded smelting company.

Tatau: BBC Three, 10pm

Following the critical success of In the Flesh, BBC Three's latest foray into supernatural drama is one to watch.

Tatau stars newcomer Joe Layton as Kyle, a backpacker who finds himself on the South Pacific island of Manutaki.

New BBC Three supernatural drama Tatau starts this Sunday. We spoke to its stars, Joe Layton and Theo Barklam-Biggs, about what to expect…

As this chat with Tatau’s lead actors, Joe Layton and Theo Barklem-Biggs, took place before the press screening for BBC Three’s new supernatural drama, the pair were given the responsibility of describing the series to me: Unique. Mysterious. Fast-paced. Energy-fuelled. A hurricane. A typhoon. (Before long, they're just listing weather systems.)

“It’s a teen show, accessible for young people” cuts in Barklem-Biggs as his co-star brings up the otherworldly, occult palette of True Detective, “even around all this darkness there will be moments that make you laugh as well. It keeps you on the edge of your seat.”

Layton gets back on message and agrees, “I think it really suits BBC Three.”

That it does, as a youth-oriented story of two twenty-something backpackers, Kyle and Budgie,...
