A 22-year-old who pleaded guilty to stealing and selling unreleased music by artists like Coldplay and Shawn Mendes was sentenced to 21 months in prison, the BBC reports.

Skylar Dalziel was accused of hacking cloud storage accounts linked to various artists and then selling the stolen tracks on the dark web. Dalziel allegedly made an estimated £42,000 (about $52,000) from the scheme between April 2021 and Jan. 2023, according to police.

The heyday of the Disney Channel Original Movie is unfortunately well in the past. Throughout the late '90s and early '00s, the Disney Channel would put out original movies almost monthly, and they were treated like a must-attend event for tweens everywhere. Tierra Whack stopped by The Tonight Show to showcase a medley of two songs, “Moovies” and “Shower Song.” The singer was joined by a live band for a soulful performance of the dual numbers, which she melded together for the late-night performance.

Both tracks come of Whack’s debut LP, World Wide Whack, which dropped in March. The LP saw Whack collaborating with numerous producers, including J Melodic, Simms, and Nick Verruto.

The three-day music festival will take place November 15th-17th, 2024 at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City. With six weeks’ notice — and fresh off an appearance at Kendrick Lamar’s Pop-Out — Tyler, the Creator announced on social media Thursday that he would be dropping out of headlining slots at Lollapalooza and Outside Lands.

An upbeat, pop-punkish tune, “Vertigo” lays the band’s tight rhythm section beneath a commanding vocal line from Lili Trifilio, who described the single as “a bop about self sabotage, jealousy, and generally spiraling (classic).”

Touching on the song’s origins, Trifilio explained that she’s “on a journey of self-awareness,” and, mirroring the song’s airport-themed lyrics, she first thought of the melody on a flight. “I wrote this on an airplane in my head and tried to demo it in the bathroom very sneakily,” she said. “But airplane bathrooms are super loud, so as to not forget how it went, since the audio was trash, I sang it in my head for the entire duration of a four-hour flight.”

A new festival is coming to Pittsburgh, and the lineup is filled with stars.

On Tuesday, Sudden Little Thrills Music Festival — a new two-day fest set for Sept. 7 and 8 at Hazelwood Green — announced its lineup featuring headlining sets from the Killers, Sza, Melanie Martinez, and Wiz Khalifa performing a hometown birthday set.

Day One, headlined by the Killers and Martinez, will also see performances from St. Vincent, Fletcher, Ethel Cain, Del Water Gap, Girl Talk, Good Neighbours, Charlotte Sands, and Kenny Mason.

Elvis Presley‘s “(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear” sounds like another 1950s doo-wop song. With its focus on teddy bears, it seems like it should be a children’s song. Despite that, it’s more suggestive than most 1950s hits. Some of the lyrical choices in the song are pretty questionable.

Plenty of great rock songs are children’s songs, including The Beatles’ “Yellow Submarine,” Peter, Paul and Mary’s “Puff, the Magic Dragon,” and basically everything by The Monkees. Elvis’ “(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear” is anything but that. It’s a song where Elvis asks his lover to touch him like she’s touching a teddy bear. How this didn’t upset the censors at the time is beyond me.

Furthermore, Elvis asks his lover to put a chain around his neck and lead him around.

Considering the complexity of The Beatles‘ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, it makes sense that Paul McCartney has some difficulty singing one of its songs. He said he was instrumental in writing the song. John Lennon might have told a different story.

Pepper song live. “I also like doing ‘For the Benefit of Mr. Kite!’ [sic] that’s nice to do,” he said. “With ‘Mr. Kite,’ the thing about it is, it’s quite challenging cause the bass part goes somewhere that the vocal doesn’t go. So it’s like you’ve got to split your body in half and send one half to do the vocal and send the other half to do the bass part. That’s good to do; it’s quite hard to do.

The annual holiday-themed concert, co-hosted by iHeartRadio, took place on Friday night (December 8) at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter, Jared Leto, Martha Stewart, Andy Cohen, Amy Robach, T.J. Holmes, Big Time Rush, David Kushner, and Jelly Roll all posed for photos on the red carpet prior to the show.

Z100′s 2023 Jingle Ball lineup included: Olivia, Sabrina, David, Big Time Rush, Jelly Roll, Sza, OneRepublic, Doechii, Pentatonix, Melanie Martinez, and a special performance from Cher.

Melanie Martinez showed support for Palestine during her concert in Paris on Sunday by bringing the country’s flag on stage, and her microphone cut out as it was being unfurled.

The incident took place toward the end of the singer’s performance at Zénith Paris – La Villette on Sunday (November 26th). After leaving the stage, she also displayed the following message on the screen: “Free Palestine. Ceasefire now.” It’s unclear whether there is a connection between Martinez raising the flag and her sound being cut.

Melanie Martinez has announced 2024 dates for “The Trilogy Tour” across North America.

Martinez’s current tour, the “Portals Tour,” saw the alt-pop artist revive her alter ego “Cry Baby.” She’ll keep up that persona during “The Trilogy Tour,” which will highlight her three studio albums thus far: Cry Baby, K-12, and Portals.

After finishing up her current run of international dates, Martinez returns to the states on May 10th, 2024 at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena before hitting major venues across the continent like Los Angeles’ Kia Forum, New York City’s Madison Square Garden, and Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena. The finale will take place on June 14th at Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena. Joining the tour will be special guests Men I Trust, Beach Bunny, and Sofia Isella on select dates.

Melanie Martinez’s fan-favorite albums Cry Baby and K-12 are back from the dead. On Thursday, the singer announced that she will be embarking on an arena tour, titled the Trilogy Tour, that will celebrate her trio of LPs, including 2023’s Portals.

Martinez announced the tour dates on her Instagram, sharing a tour poster showing her Cry Baby character laying alongside the pink-skinned, four-eyed fairy creature she’s been performing during her tour to promote Portals.

“The cycle of life – from the beginning of crybaby’s story to the end ,” Martinez wrote on Instagram.

Olivia Rodrigo, Nicki Minaj, Usher, and Sza are among the artists who will perform shows around the country throughout the holiday season.

“Our annual iHeartRadio Jingle Ball lineup is one of our most anticipated of the year, and we’re excited to finally share who will be joining us on the road this season,” Tom Poleman, chief programming officer for iHeartMedia, said in a statement (via Billboard). “This event always showcases the best in pop music and gives our listeners the chance to celebrate the holiday season alongside their favorite artists.”

ABC will be airing a Jingle Ball special on Dec. 21 featuring footage from all of the tour stops. The special will be available on demand and on Hulu the following day.

Taylor Swift was the big winner at the 2023 MTV VMAs, including the top award of the night Video of the Year for “Anti-Hero.” The singer-songwriter had the odds in her favor as she was the most nominated artist of the night going into the award show with eight mentions.

Other winners of the night included Shakira with the Video Vanguard Award as well as Best Duo alongside Karol G for their song “Tqg.” Anitta took Best Latin for “Funk Rave,” while Nicki Minaj won the Best Hip-Hop trophy for “Super Freaky Girl.”

One of the big moments of the night was when Nsync took the stage to present the first award of the night. Joey Fatone, Lance Bass, Justin Timberlake, Jc Chasez and Chris Kirkpatrick came together to hand out Swift with the Best Pop award.

In my opinion, the most interesting categories at the VMAs are not the most publicized ones like Video of the Year and Artist of the Year. Instead, they are the professional categories, voted on not by fans but by music insiders. Indeed, this is where quality generally prevails over popularity. So let’s consider who the winners in these categories will be.

Best Visual Effects

The nominee that might stand out the most in this category is Melanie Martinez’s “Void,” just based on the volume of effects used for worldbuilding. However, last year multiple similar videos lost to Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow’s “Industry Baby,” which used its effects in a more supporting role. So I’ll go with Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero” here; it’s subtle, but it’s also using visual effects in an interesting way. Plus, since the effects serve the story, voters might appreciate it more.
